Found the transfer case has a piece of wood supporting it. I do not think there’s a bracket or OEM support for this, at least not in the 60 series. Last time i did the clutch in the 60, only the trans had a support bracket.
pls check yours and let me know what you see

Thanks

After being A MUD member for 10 years, you could at least tell us what it is and its history. My bet is they put the wood there to get the engine vertical, but if you use the proper components , you wouldn't need to.
I suggest removing it and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply
Pic is from 1988 FJ70, new to me ;)
Bought the car 2 weeks ago with long brakes, clutch with deep pedal and vibration at 60 kph (yes it is a south american car) no mph conversion.
U joint cracked and changed all of them with resolution of vibration.
Bleed brake and clutch with new master cylinders and no improvement in spongy brakes or deep clutch, maybe TB is not OEM.

Runs very good, but carb looks new and idles a little high, so will need to work some more on that.
The big challenge is to figure out what OEM looks like, and to make things worse, this particular fj70, came with dana 44 differentials to mention one of the transplants that toyota allowed for that particular market.

it will be very helpful to see pictures of your transfer case support to get an idea of what i’m looking at. The piece of wood is underneath the transfer case, transmission support is in place.

@Onur please expand on what else you see that is wrong
@roscoFJ73
@jmlockwood

thanks for the input

Here is a picture. This is on a 75 series Troopy.

Its clear that you do not have the factory support that is under the transfer case.

@roscoFJ73 is right. The wood is there for a purpose. The factory support does not touch or in any way hold up the transfer case. I see the wood is actually touching the transfer case. There should be some room in between the 2 incase you hit a rock. the support will take the blow and not damage the case..

I took the picture at night. If you need more details then let me PM your email and i will send you more detailed pictures..

Hope this helps.

That plate that is most rearward is just a bash plate. I've had 3 x 7* series, some had it some didn't. It doesnt support the t/case in any way. Some people take them off because mud can collect in there.

I cant understand why the wood is there, it shouldn't need it. My only guess is the rubber gearbox mount is broken and they have put that in there to keep it in place

Thanks for the reply
My FJ60 does not have that either and the plate is there just for protection.
I’m just going to remove the wood and leave it alone.
Will update the group if anything weird happens

thanks again

Hello,

x2.

A creative mechanic. Quite likely the rubber mount broke (or someone stole it) and the PO did not want to buy a replacement.

The support does not look OEM at all. Maybe it broke as well, again, with no proper replacement.

I would check the transfer for leaks. On second thought, I would have it inspected and repaired.

A PO that did not spend on a proper mount quite likely did not spend on maintenance/repairs either.
