transfer case rear seal and bearing (3 Viewers)

I am in process of changing the transfer case rear seal and bearing, when pulling the tail shaft assembly the 2 shims fell out on the the ground. After changing the bearing and seal I cannot get the case to close on the oil pump side I put the 2 shims back in place with some grease to hold them but the case still has a 1/8 gape. Any help would be appreciated.
