My manual says I must use Toyota Geniune Gear Oil LF SAE 75w (or equivalent) in my 2011 FJC. Toyota does have it (part # 08885-81080), but at $55 per quart (and I'd need 1.5 qts), I'm thinking I'll have to sell the FJ so that I can afford the oil. There has got to be an alternative equivalent that won't void my drive-train warranty, right? I wanted to use Amsoil, but Amsoil won't claim any alternative and they won't recommend their 75w-90 Severe Gear. Anyone else have superior experience with this? Looking for feedback.

I use Amsoil 75w-90 Severe Gear in mine, in fact in every transfer case, differential, and manual transmission that I own. I have an aftermarket transfer case and besides that my FJC is so old and has so many miles that the warranty is not an issue though.

yeah. That's what everyone everywhere seems to be telling me. It must be OK. I just wish some vendor would claim it in some official authoritarian capacity, e.g., "our oil is an OFFICIAL substitute for Toyota Geniune." I'd feel better about it. I'm surprised that Amsoil won't go the extra mile for this. They do for the differential, tranny and crank case. Why not the transfer case too??? I guess I'll put all my chips on red #9 (Amsoil 75w-90) and hope it works out OK. Thanks for the feed back Chupacabra & Mtbcoach. I appreciate it.
