trailer wiring question

The lights on my boat trailer arent working correctly. When i cut my headlights on the tail lights light up. I do not have turn signals or brake lights however. So another words if i dont have the head lights on i have nothing. Bad Ground? Easier to just rewire it?

Either a bad ground or break in the wiring somewhere. You can buy 50 feet rolls of trailer wiring at Walmart for like $15. Just rewire it and splice your connectors on. Way easier than chasing down the gremlin.

I know it sounds basic but start at your truck wiring and work backwards. you need to make sure that your 4-way on the truck is working as it should, if you haven't already done so. If running lights, turn signals, brakes all work, then move on to the trailer. I have seen many vehicles with separate fuses for trailer wiring. if it's your 60, that's likely not the case but I know that my Silverado has separate trailer fuses that gave me an issue once. The tag light had a bare spot and kept blowing the fuse for some reason.

Get one of these to start: Four-Way Trailer Light Tester, a cheap way to see if your truck is setup correctly before you debug the trailer.

will try all of the above tomorrow. Last time I used one of my fathers trailer it was fine but u never know.

There is also a set of diodes in the truck wiring because you have amber turn signals. separate from the brake lights.
check the truck first with a tester like he said, and work back.
You just need to be aware of how the truck is wired.
