Hello all, it seems that you all are a little more familiar Roof Top tents than I am. I want a tent for my Bug out trailer, but I do not need a top of the line high dollar unit. I know that the ARBs and a few other brands are in the 1200 and up range. That is way more than I want to spend. I know there are some knock off units that are Chinese I think, but have no idea if they are any good or if there are better options. My trailer is fairly small, comparable to the M101a (I think). I do not need a full living room set up either just sleeping really for 2 minimum, but 4 preferable (2 adults, 2 kids). Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have the $$ for a RTT so I spent $140.00 on a deck and
7 x 7 coleman tent.

You could make a platform that folds to reduce travel size.

I have an ARB on my M101CDN. It came with the trailer and it fits very nicely.

That being said, I had the Chinese knockoff (car-top-tent) on my 80, which was nearly identical to the ARB, less the larger vestibule. The ARB is better quality, but I can still pick out many things on the ARB that I would change. The CTT was $780 delivered to my house with the privacy room back in 2007 and it worked just fine through many rain storms, etc. Probably working just fine to this day with its new owner who got it with my 80.

Keep your eyes peeled on Craigslist, here and EP and you will probably be able to pick up a good used one for a good price.

Here is my ARB in action...

Hit up Tepui in Capitola/Santa Cruz. They have scratch and dent sales. Buddy got one and had a gouge in the bottom that was fixed by aluminum tape.

That is a really nicely finished trailer, mine looks more like a Franken trailer in comparison! I had mine fabbed from a motorcycle trailer believe it or not. Now it is sitting on 37" tires with Rhino suspension. I was going to post pictures, but I have no access to create an album. Not sure what the deal is, not used to this forum layout my forum is V-Bullitin and is laid out differently.

I believe you need at least ten legitimate (non-chat) posts before you can post pics. At least, that is how it used to be...

Two more and you are home free.

I looked them up, nice looking stuff. I did not call them, but it looks like they do not sell from the website. Got to go through a dealer. I should be reaching out to see if I can get a discount for putting a review on our site. It pretty much fits our subject matter. Bug out trailer accessory for sure.

Nice setup. Your trailer looks smaller than an M101, but might just be those big tires.

Couple of observations...

The water and fuel can setup on the back looks a bit sketchy. You may want to get a platform under them. That's a lot of weight hanging there.

Also, that axle looks fairly light, what is the rating on that?

Look at the bright side, any mods are a write off. ;)

Out of sheer curiosity, what brought you to a Land Cruiser forum?

Are you thinking of upgrading? :D

Yeah water and fuel got moved to the front in order to balance out the weight, but I still have not made a bracket. Trailer box is slightly smaller than a 101 that is true. When I was searching for hot water showers/heat exchangers it took me here. I started poking around and thought I could get some good crossover ideas on survival and preparedness from you guys. So far so good picked up some good tips on another thread I started as well. Your last comment had me rolling, but I am looking forward to seeing some of your rigs! I started out heavy on the crawling and really challenging trails in places like Moab, and the Rubicon, but now that I have 2 little kids and the SHTF is near I am a little more focused on sustainable, over capable so I think I can learn a lot here about vehicles and products that are tailored for that. Oh I almost forgot the axle and hubs are rated for 3500lbs, looks small because if the tires.
I built this trailer for 2k, because who can afford a chaser? Also I love tinkering and building things. I'm not a welder, I had the fab work done, but it was my design and I gathered the parts. I recently had it out in the desert and got up to 85 with it over shrub rocks sand you name it and it tracks perfectly. It has a few other design features that make it unique, but it was done with Moab in mind. I figured if I could rock crawl with it then backcountry roads should not be an issue. Sorry if this is a bit incoherent I'm on the phone Tapatalk.
