Im building a trailer and i just want to know is it important that the axle is 100% dead straight? ive been told that it needs to be measured and angles from the coupling to make sure the trailer tracks straight. Ive tacked it all up and squared it all to the frame, I havent put the draw bars on yet.

Should i wait until i put the draw bars on and the coupling before i fully weld it?

thanks guys
James

Center the frame and weld the coupler on. then measure to the front bracket for the spring. Be sure they are the same distance and insure the rear bracket is the same on both sides. Being of an 1/8 inch is no problem but be more concerned with tire wear if it is out of alingment.

Personally, I would leave it until you can burn all the welds in for the final weld. However, you could burn them in now, and set the draw bars square to the axle... its a little backwards but shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the replies. ive put the draw bars on now and measured and its all sweet, the coupling will go on tonight, ive got it on with vice grips at the moment. If it needs adjusting then ill just move the axle on the leaves.

Its looking pretty good at the moment
