Next weekend there is a trail clean up in conjunction w/ pirate if anyone is interested.
I'm gonna head up Friday after work and help out an see all that's happened since June.

Would love to, but I have plans this weekend. Have fun and throw a rock or pick up some trash for me.

Will do!!
Have fun, yourself!!

I have been trying to figure out a way to do this. And I still might. Just not up for driving the 40 that far and need to drive the same 2 hrs the next day to make it to the wolfpack game by 4:00. Thought about going down in the pick up and catching a ride in part way, do some clean up and hike back out. Would miss the party and chili sat. night but would get to help with the trail I love and get a t-shirt(maybe). So you might see me friday night-Keith. For a good campsite go to the end of the road and rather than turning off go straight past the regular turn off to the trail and go across the spillway for a campsite next to the lake(sort of). I have been on a few of these back in the hey day and it was mostly picking up poop and tp. Once we did it at Bucks and got a whole bag of the stuff. I would be suprised if there is any trash on that trail now. Maybe a few spills to clean. Anyway I would love to make it:bounce:

Mark...
I was curious as to why you of all people hadn't posted on this.
If you want, wheel the trail w/ me on sat. I'll have an open seat.
I'll be at the main camp Friday. Not 100% sure where that is, but I'll find it.
Part of the reason I wanna go is to meet some new people in the sport.
I'm stoked about this!! It'll be a great experience to give back to the trail and meet others who are more involved in the land use.

Hope you can make it!!!

K

Keith thanks for the offer of the open seat. I'll take you up on that.
I got the ok from the boss which is really cool of her cause I will be gone this month for three nights next week.:grinpimp:
I may not be going in to far as I will need to be back at the truck by 12:30 to make it home for the game/shower etc. And I don't want to need to hike more than 5 miles. Not sure where that even puts us on the trail. I can just p/u garbage on the way out. Plus I will have the truck to haul trash out if needed.

I will be leaving Carson at 3:30 so...I should be there about 5:00/30? Will also camp where everyone else is if they have a main camp and room. Lots of other options if needed. I'll check on pirates to find location. I'll look for ya. If any of you other guys want to go you could ride down with me and back. Just a thought.

AWESOME!!
We meet at the kiosk at 8 for trail meeting and word is they will divy up the groups to areas and tasks!!
Hopefully we can talk w/ them and keep us sort of close due to your time constraints so you won't have to hike too far.
I'll probably be leaving my house around 4-430 un fortunately.

OK if I don't see you friday night I will see you at the Kiosk at 8:00 which usually turns into 8:30 or 9:00 due to the party the night before:cheers::)

Thanks for coming out mark!!

It was great to be able to hang out w/ you for the evening and day.
Brian and I ended up running up to little sluice. He WALKED the soup bowl and we both ran LS!!
They filled it in like 3 or 4 ft but it still has a fair bit of bite to it.
It's not easy but there is at least a discernable line.

Was there much cleanup required? Or was it more trail maintenence?

Good to hear you got some good wheeling in as well. Pics??

Mark, myself and my friend Brian were tasked w/ going to Ellis creek and cleaning spills on granite bowl. All three of us combined got maybe a quarter of a bag of trash. Not much at all.
However all around LS and buck I guess there was quite a bit.
Mark had to leave pretty early, so we elected to do Ellis for that reason.
I got a few pics ill post later.
The county does an inspection of the trail on the 24th as part of the CAO, and they said there is a good chance the CAO can be lifted by next year which sounds like a good thing.
Saw a surprising number of stock rigs... I guess the word is out that the trail is now "paved"...
They got a surprise. It's still the rubicon!!

Sounds like fun, I spent the day in a jacket and tie at a wedding.:frown:

Glad to hear they didn't completely smooth out LS.

BTW

Where TF are the pictures:flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

Trail maintenance and wheeling on the Rubicon, sounds like a perfect weekend. Sorry that I missed it!

What line did Brian take up Soup Bowl? Last time I was there a big rock was in front of the traditional line and most of the guys had to go straight up the Soup Kitchen (further right).

Most we're going up to the far left, cutting hard passenger and driving diagonally in that gully.
Apparently, that is now closed un officially. Also, the main bypass around LS is an "illegal" bypass as well.
I was half tempted to TRY soup, but just didn't wanna risk a break.
I was almost gonna sit out on LS too, but after looking at it for a while I just went for it.
Just by the fact that I was able to run it tells the story that its nowhere near what it was, but it still provides a decent challenge.

Really it was my pleasure. My first time as a passanger. Glad it was in Matti. Waltzed thru everything and not surprised you did the Sluice. Maybe it is better now that they have cleaned it out??:hhmm:. At least we can try it. About 6 years back I think I would have tried it if it wasn't for the jeering. It just got to hard after that. This year watching that line the guy took to make it just isn't feasible in our rigs(maybe??) Soooo...

It was nice to meet Bryan. Would have been cool to see him do the soup bowl. Nice rig and it is a toy. Why isn't he wheeling with our club? Glad the chili was good--but bet it didn't top the dancing queen:D. Was she back at it Sat. night? She seemed a bit embarassed Sat morning. Crazy stuff happens at those Pirate clean-ups. Great bunch of guys this year. Well next year! Sorry no pics from me forgot the camera. Geez one of the main duties of the passenger and I choked.;)

You guys are killing me here.
I'm stuck in New Jersey with not a rock in sight.
POST SOME EFFING PICTURES ALREADY!!!!!!!!

Nope...
Everyone was pretty tame sat and in bed by like 12.
Had a chat w/ Hollywood, the president of the pirates (the dude w/ the rear steer) he gave me the low down on the sluice controversy. Cool dude. He was interested in matti as it turns out, asked where i came from and if I was the one who built it.
I had never actually seen anyone make the soup bowl, so that was cool to watch. On the way back, I watched a couple of the other guys make it too.
It was a great experience to participate in!!
I'd do it next year too, definitely!!

Lol...man points Dan... Man points!! :flipoff2:

Like I said...not a whole lot of pics.
The FOR guy WANTED PICS of WHAT and HOW we were cleaning. So a couple are of that.
They had this oil eating bacteria that we needed to just put down on the oil spots and leave. The bacteria eats it and the only by product is CO2. Pretty neat stuff actually. A dude down in pollock pines makes it. Apparently its pretty spendy though, and it didnt go very far. Next year they were talking about 5 gal drums of it and spray bottles.
