My 1980 FJ came with a Bestop Supertop brand new in box (black), no doors. I want to trade it for a hard top that will fit my 1980 FJ40. Anyone?

He did not give ya the soft doors too? You ought to be able to sell the top and pick up a HT for about the same or maybe a little more $.

Ever get the carb stuff worked out?

I got the soft doors too, but they are older and used, not brand new with the top.

I wanted to trade because I figured they were worth about the same. Also I would rather do it locally so no high shipping costs.

What do you have for the rear bed? Tailgate, half doors, nothing? A bestop with an 80' FJ40 requires a panel or lower doors for the rear. I am asking not because I need that part with the top, but because I am trying to figure out exactly what you need. I have a stipped apart hardtop from a 71 that has the rear lift hatch. It needs to be restored, but I have an excelent fiberglass top with a seperate rain gutter that needs to be installed. The sides have no rust, but needs a small hole that was cut for a CB ant. patched. All glass and working hatch. Needs a new handle. I will let it go really cheap, or trade ya with some cash to boot. I have no doors, and it is definately a project, not a bolt on and go.

I have just a metal panel bolted to the back. No doors. How much work would your top be? What exactly needs to be done? Any pics?

Sand and paint. New window seals, remove old gutter, pop rivet used gutter to fiberglass top. Reattach with new hardware. I have the hardtop door supports for both early and late model doors, so you could have both depending on what doors you score. You could keep your rear panel and find some half barn doors later. The top should work pretty nicely with what you have. The fiberglass top will only need to be waxed, not painted. It is in pretty good shape. I don't have any pictures of it right now.

What is wrong with the current rain gutter? Can I put a roof rack on a fiberglass top? I am still a newbie to LCs. So, the sides are metal OEM type, and just the top is fiberglass? Also, you wrote sand and paint, and you wrote will only need to be waxed, not painted? Could I do this in a weekend.

I have a parts fj40, 73, in Louisiana. It has hard doors, but the lacth is different than on the 1980. It also has the half barn doors.

I am very interested, but you live very far away. Do you ever come this way any?

I am seriously interested in the top. I have 3 hardtops I am trying to get rid of to fund a Pakistan top. Here is the link:

I should be able to get them up to S.C. before the holidays. You would have to clean them up and paint them your color. I would be willing to work something out on 2 hard tops for the supertop. Let me know if you're interested.

Yes, interested. When are you coming up this way?

I would have to have Capt Jim bring them up to you. Possibly around Thanksgiving. I put the word out to him today. Where are you located? I can get the tops close to Greenville.

Softop ?'s:
Do the back window zip out or roll up on that super top?
It's the super top and not the tiger top right?
You said NIB, never installed right?

Thanks,
Todd

I live in Anderson, SC.

Yes, the soft top is still in the box, never installed.

I just talked to Jim and he said he probably won't make it to S.C. until January. How much of a hurry are you in? Is anyone coming to FL that you know?

I would like some top to keep water out sometime soon. I dont know anyone going to FL.

I'll let you know if things change for the better. Maybe someone will chime in heading either way.
