80's certainly have no problem with torque in low gear. Darn near got myself in trouble on one of the early obsticles on McGrew....deep hole, lots of dust, needed to pull out of it (you had to go in the hole to get through, couldn't bypass). Applied the normal amount of throttle, nothing but slipping. Engaged the rear locker....WHAM. Darn near went straight up the side and got myself into real trouble.
That being said I did make it through McGrew with very very little damage (mostly pinstriping). So a (nearly) stock 80 ain't a bad rig at all.
Where 80's lack is that high end power, such as towing over hills. That and they're heavy (and long) beasties.
