My car is 1999 model Land Cruiser GXR (4500cc automatic transmission 4X4). I have problem starting the car. It does not even crank when turning the key. But after few attempts, the car starts and run without any problem. It usually causes less prblem when the engine is hot. Any tips? Stater problem?

You're firstly in the wrong section of the forum, but I'm sure someone will be along to move it anyway....

Secondly, I am pretty sure your fuel is somehow leaking back through the system, thus you need to crank a couple times for it to suck back up the fuel. This could mean you have a air leak in the system somewhere.... Hence why when you've been running it, not much fuel drips back and it starts back fine.

Hope this helps... would recommend running through the fuel pipe line and watching out for leaks or rust. There tends to be rust on the pipe on the pick up on that enters the tank as well.

Thanks very much for the tip. It kind of make sense because the car is 13 year old and lately I have changed a number of pipes (mostly rubber type) for the radiator system due to leak.

I will ask my mechanic to do a thorough check on the fuel line. I have change oil filter recently but it did not fix the problem.

The trouble with the intermittent ignition problem is that it is hard to know if the problem is solved until the following day when I try to start the car in the morning. Cheers.
