Toyota at the 24 Hours of Le Mans isn't really news. They've been racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans many times. The big news is that this year they are highly favored to win the race. More so now than any years prior.

The reason that this is a big deal is that they could become the second Japanese manufacturers to win this grueling race. Mazda is currently the only Japanese manufacturer to have ever won Le Mans. Mazda 787B FTW.

Toyota is also kinda putting everything it has got into this race, both by means of car and river line-up. Fernando Alonso, of Formula 1 fame, will be one of the star drivers in one of the LMP1 cars.

So tune in and check out the race. The race will be on the Velocity channel and MotorTrend OnDemand. Chances are you'll witness something historic. They've earned their place at this track. It's time to see them win this thing and hopefully not break down on the final lap of the race again.

The race comes on Velocity and MotorTrend Saturday, June 16th at 8AM. @lt1fire might have some info on how to catch the race by other means.

They were favored with he GT1 also but it had issues. Hoping they can pull it out... tired of Audi or Porsche winning that class... always astounds me that they can make uber reliable endurance racers but not road cars.

With the upcoming move it had actually completely slipped my mind. Thanks for the reminder. I'll check the sites I used to stream it through to see if they are still up.

Now that I have MToD I will be watching this. I watched a bit of Le Man last year with the crazy Audi e-tron Quattro Diesel Hybrid. It was absolutely fascinating to watch it accelerate out of corners.

A quick look at the history of Toyota at Le Mans.

1992: Team Tom's Toyota trails the Peugeot team and takes second place.

1999: The Toyota GT-One had limited success in 1998, but returned to Le Mans in 1999 as the fastest car in the overall field. Late in the race the lead car suffered a puncture and retired.

2016: This one still hurts: link. Porsche took the victory.

2017: Qualified on pole, but had all sorts of mechanical trouble.

Toyota has entered the 24 Hours of Le Mans more than mentioned above, but they have generally had lack luster results. The closest they have ever been to overall victory was 2016. Lets hope they can pull it off on Saturday.

I remember watching it in 99 in Britain. It wasnt so much as a tire puncture that ended the GTones in that race rather a bad wheel well design. When the tires had a blowout they took out suspension and steering linkages. It was the one area the TTE team hadn't thought about when building the chassis. They did have an ingenious way to get around having to have trunk space in the car though.

It' got 24 hour coverage on xfinity. Was watching it earlier after a cup game.

How many miles do they travel over the course of the race? A thousand? That's about right for VW group reliability.

I was reading, in 2010, the most miles achieved during a race was 3,362... and it was done by VW. Well Audi actually. :D

3:30 to the end and the last lap, this is far as they've ever been...
