Has anyone towed (or have thoughts on towing) a ‘92 FJ80 on a tow dolly with a 5th gen T4R? It would be about 3 hours drive time and quite flat. No mountains or anything.

My only hold up is how unbelievably soft these suspensions are. But it also wouldn’t have much tongue weight. I know braking would have to be done with much more advance notice. I have a CDL so am used to larger loads, just not on such a small vehicle.

i wouldnt be worried about getting it moving, id be more worried about stopping. truck and dolly is going to be pretty close to max towing limit for the truck. and dont forget with the dolly to pull need to pull your driveshaft. i think that itll handle it but if your renting a dolly from uhaul they may not even allow it. i was denied renting a dolly to tow a previa with the 80 as uhaul said it was too heavy a load and wouldnt allow the rental to go through

Good points. I should have mentioned pulling the shaft as well, definitely was my intention.

Yeah that’s another thing, I’d probably have to just lie. 😂. Definitely frowned on.

theyll check the tow vehicle when you show up, i ended up borrowing a neighbors f250 diesel to move the van. itll be cheaper to tow it yourself but what about getting a towing company with a flatbed to move the truck. its only 3 hr away so a guess on mileage is around 200, itll be an expensive tow but may just be an easier option

Well I’ll likely just rustle up a buddies truck and trailer. Just was hoping to take some of the moving parts out of the equation. And it’s not running, so that’s why wanted to have a low dolly vs a trailer, but that’s stupid idea and fun stories later are for.

^ Good call! I was getting a major pucker factor, mostly from emergency braking scenarios.
