so, i've got this tacoma top and i'm thinking about using it in an offroad trailer build. just brainstorming right now, but i'm thinking about building a large box the length of the camper top and mounting 6ft boxes on the upper sides and mounting the camper on top. i've got a mad paint skills sketch-if i can get it up. really just want to bounce ideas off you guys.

Seems like a reasonable thought: tell us more:

1) which direction would the camper face: same orientation as on pickup or crossways? (as it looks on your sketch)

2) would the shell open into the bottom box, or sit on top? What would be stored inside?

camper would face forward just as if it were on a truck.

i think it would open into the middle box. thinking some kind of cabinate system in the middle to hold camping gear. most of my car camping is short term, so i don't really put alot of thought into packing light. just load everything i think i might need and keep going till i run out of room.

maybe i could find a taco bed to put it on.

Why not look into another topper that you flip upside down. They would seal against each other as they mount on the same plane - the truck bed rail. It may look a little different as the back of the toppers angle forward, but still quite different. Of course you could look for a topper that has no windows and it totally flat on the top.
