My trusty 1972 FJ40's alternator decided enough is enough and took a break last night. While I have a spare alternator, its over in Colorado Springs, and its a 2 week wait for it to make its way over here. So, I'd like to know if anyone knows if anyone stocks brushes here in GJ. Brushes are my 1st guess. A quick scan of the online parts houses shows they are available, but need to be ordered with a 2 to 5 business day wait.!!!

Any information will be appreciated.

TLC Alternator brushes in GJ

Thanks for the replys, guys.

Good ideas, and I'll see what I can locate this week. Since I cut my mechanic skills in the shade of a big tree, I pulled a 3rd world trick and got it working again until the spare alternator arrives from CS or I locate brushes here. Since a '72 FJ40 is about as simple as you can get the "fix" may last a long time. I'm kinda thinking the failure may have been accelerated by the 21 road run last month. Although Hunter wash was running, don't get confused that it was all water. It was more like a 50/50 slurry of water/soil with all its attendent abilities to gum up and short out who knows what. It took 2 weeks for the problems to get all worked out with stop lights. Turn signals worked fine as did the 4 way flashers. But I had the left stop light not working when the brake pedal was pushed. I rechecked the tail light/stop light wiring last night as Hugh suggested, and all works fine now.

You could call GJ starter and alt down on 28 1/2 road. I talked to them last week about mine and they should be able to get the parts you need. I think the mud and sand was a little much for mine as well I threw a belt last week and found that my bearings are making noise. So I need run down to safari and pick one up.
