I found some oem steelies and was wondering if i go up from a 32x11.50 to 33x10.50 is there anything i should be concerned about? it has a shackle lift that will eventually be replaced by suspension lift. it seems there will be plenty of clearance for dd duties. thoughts?

I ran my 1980 on shackle only lift and for daily driver status it was ok, Pretty close to the tub in the rear, I only ran it that way for about 6 weeks though. That was a 33x10.50 on stock steelies though, Not sure what backspacing you have on those rims, and what interference you will have in the 1/4 panels or against the steering linkage in the front.
This was also on bfg at ko's though, I now keep thinking about ditching them and getting some 34 x 10.50 ltbs though.

the bfg ko is what i was looking at. if seems to have plenty of clearance on the current setup. i cant see how a tire one inch taller would make that much of a difference. however im obviously new to all this.

call me crazy but

That rear looks cut, if that is the case no rub issue on the 33"s DD. I had 33 x 10.5 on my 77 with a shackle lift tired spring and only rubbed on the road with 4 people in the truck and a big girl behind me on the Jump Seat. I hit a bump on the road and did not have heart to tell her it was her fat ass that made the tire rub.

Just a minor factual point, but the 33x10.50 is way too wide to mount on a 15x5.5" wheel, according to the tire fit chart from BFG.

OTOH, they would be very solid on the 15x8 wagons shown in the picture.

Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be done (see Hummer H2 as an example).

the dilemma is that i really like the look of the oem wheels. i would like slightly larger tires without going wider. desired tire size (33x10.50) is getting hard to find in 15inch. haven't found 16inch wheel that i feel has the right look for a 40. am i looking for "atlantis?" should i stick with what i have? suggestions...

One of the few times I'll disagree with Jim :p: I think the 33x10.5 BFG works fine on the stock hub cap wheel. Yeah, I know what the charts say. I also know how the combo seems to work well for many of my friends on their Cruisers. So I guess the choice is yours... Either way I think that tire will fit your truck as is for DD duty.

I know it is not advised to run the 33x10.50 on the stock wheels but I have about 3 or 4 thousand miles on this setup, I run the pressure pretty low, about 28 psi in all 4 tires to keep the rims from crowning. any more than that and I get some wander in the steering on bad roads.
The plus side Is I have no issue running at 12 psi off road.
Dave

that is the reason i asked. ive seen quite a few cruisers on this site running that combo, and i wanted to get feedback on it. thanks for everyones imput.

If you want to see how it rides let me know,
I am in chagrin falls/auburn area and will be more than happy to let you check it out.

So you don't think the tire fit chart says that? ;p

No, I don't wanna read the rest of it. That's why I used the snip tool to make it go away.

Quit trying to change my skewed perception of reality, dangit!:D

With all the skewers I am thinking shishkabob for lunch now....
