Looking at:

TSL SX's
Iroks
Trxus MT's

In the 37x12.5 variety.

Iroks and the Trxus MT's have what looks to be a LOT of siping where the TSL's not so much.

Iroks are the top dollar and the MT's are the mid range.

Would anyone think that if you got these tires you could NOT run a spare?
Anyone have enough confidence in the side walls?

Any opinons...
I really kinda like the MT's, but the Iroks are on the TOP of the COOL list too. They just look GNARLY!
My neighbor quoted me 303 a piece which is the cheapest ive seen for the iroks.

I was also considering the KM2, but they dont make em in a 15 in rim...

Out of the one's you listed, I would definately go with the Iroks. That very well may be the next set I buy for mine when these 35's wear out. The M/T's are nice, but if you are building a "primary" crawler, the Iroks are the ticket! IMO, with the Iroks, TSL's and SX's are a thing of the past.

About a spare...yes, always carry one. If your at a spot where your close, then no worries..i.e., Moon Rocks, Prison Hill, stuff like that. But no tire is immune to a gash, bead loss at times, and general carnage!

What he said. Plus Iroks are supposed to be awesome in the deep snow. :grinpimp:

Well to through a different tire in, have you looked much at the Pit Bull Rockers, I have heard a lot of good things about them. I have run the SX and they last a long time and the side walls are the strongest I have seen. Have heard a few complain about the IROC's that they seam to wear out a little fast but offer great traction. Call over tires international in sparks they sell the swampers and use to have the lowest price around.

As you noticed the TSL's don't have much in the way of siping. You have to groove the TSL's to get them to work well. I have to say I'm very happy with the set I have. I got them used and have run them for three seasons. I'm sure you've seen how I abuse the side walls. If there is any tire that lets you leave the spare at home that is the one. I still wouldn't.

Well im going to throw another wrench in the works here have you checked out the Nitto mud grapplers they are the same compound as the Km2's only alittle softer i think and i have seen them in action they do work very well. now you already know the tire of choice for me we discussed this last time i was up there at your place and that is the BFG all terrains no they dont look as cool as mudders but they are a very awsome tire and will take the abuse no doubt about it. ask Chris he's seen what ive done to my tires . check out the Nitto's bud you might just find what your looking for

Not having a spare is a good way to get exercise when you least expect it.

Yeah...We had talked about that. I had the BFG at's and HATED them. The lack of mud clearing, and the EXTRAORDINARY amount of chunking that occurred with those, I never run em again.

Wont argue with that Keith they aren't meant for the mud but then again how much mud do you usually encounter on the trail but thats cool everyone has their preference for tires i personally dont buy tires cause they look cool like the MT's i wont waste the money and as far as im concerned the TSL's are awsome mud tires but they really lack every where else even in the snow unless its fresh powder and no one has been there the ones Rusty run proved that on a snow run we did he couldnt move even with his tire pressure down to like 5 to 8 pounds all he did was slide and i Qoute I wish i had my BFG All Terrains but its up to you what you buy bud just trying to help out oh yea ask SarMark about his swampers as well he got rid of them cause they bite in the rocks no traction anywho all im gonna say on the deal bro its up to you what you buy and hope you find that tire that does it for you

No worries...
That is why they have sooooo many brands to choose from.
Everyone has opinions about different things.
Ive heard GREAT things about the TSL's on the rock gods, ive heard NOTHING about the interco MT's, and the Iroks seem to be too soft for the highway time that Ill be putting on em, but apparently theyre the BEST on the rocks.

Go figure.

I really liked the BFG MT's except the side wall was a bit flimsy. Never had any issues with it, but it was a concern. That being said, for some reason those A@@ holes decided to eliminate the 37x12.5x15 in in that tire.

I have no experience with any of the swampers...That is why Im asking.
BTW...those BFG AT's arent exactly reasonably priced even in comparison to the MT's. I priced those for the taco...OUCH!

Mark got rid of the TSL's because they were probably the 2nd set of 33 TSL's made about a million years ago...they got hard as a rock over time. That happens with any tire. I like the BFG M/T's, and the A/T's are good tires too. I have owned several sets of each, and they both worked good for what I wheeled and what I did with them. That being said, not in a coons age will you ever be able to put TSL's down over an A/T of any tire. A/T's have their purpose, but on a "purpose" built trail/rock crawler, they aren't gonna cut it.

The Iroks do wear a bit faster...but how many miles do you really think you will be driving them? Are you gonna DD it?? No. Look around on MUD and PBB and see how many miles cats are getting out of them. Figure up your average per year miles you will wheel to Moab, the 'Con, Fordyce, DV, and see what you come up with. DD'ing a rig is no comparison for the 6 or 8 long distance wheeling trips you will take.

You are correct about the prices 110%! To me, if your gonna buy a "wheeling" tire, TSL's might be a little more here and there, but think about this....YOU GET SOOOOO MUCH MORE TIRE!! Might not ride like a caddy on the road, might take a minute to break in....BUT IT IS A ROCK CRAWLER!!

Those TSL's are kind of bald and I had both axles locked which may have had something to do with the problems I had. I learned something about lockers that day.

One thing that might improve the TSL performance in snow,
chains. :grinpimp:

Of course chains in that size cost as much as the tires.

I have run 35 x 15 x 15 swampers in deep snow over 4' and the traction was great and unill in got slushy bearly spun a tire. I have run 36" SX's did okay in the snow but at the Hammers nothing grabbed better (before Iroc's). I run BFG AT on the F350 nice street tire and playing on hard pack line roads but wouldn't want them on the trail rig if some one else was paying for them. I would go Iroc's and if you are worried about longer life consider the Pit Bull Rockers.

and i agree the tsl's and such are good tires in fresh powder no doubt about it but once you get them on packed snow they dont seem to do so well but as Rusty said the lockers might have had somethin to do with that. not sure about the wear deal though and yes ive heard good things about the Pit Bull Rockers as well as the Nitto's. If your going with a 37 inch tire your going to pay for them no matter what you go with bud no way around that but thats life

Oh I know it. The cost of the TIRE isnt so much the issue. Its the 5 rims that I already HAVE with a good back space. That is why Im looking so hard at the 15 in part of this equation. Dont wanna re buy a new set of rims if I already have em. Conversely... The BFG MT's are still in pretty good shape too and I may end up having to run those any way depending on the funds and save up for the 37's.
Unless someone want to buy my 35's!?:D
Actually, the cost of the intercos is surprisingly in expensive for the tire.
What I have found

TSL SSR 279.00
Irok 303.00
Trxus 282.00

That is per tire of course.

Its just a matter of deciding is all. Not a life threatening issue. I do have the 35's that I can wheel with like I said. I dont actaully NEED the 37's, but I sure do WANT em to fill that big ass chop job I did on the rear 1/4.:steer:
