Started building a new tire carrier for the bed of the 40. Looking for ideas on how to hold the tire in the open position. Working on a couple ideas using cinch straps and/or climbing equipment. Trying to keep it simple and clean. Thanks for any thoughts and input.

Just read it!
You do nice work!

hi randy. not bad  . looks like a hassel to tie that up there like that. what if you built a seing arm of sorts. it could pivot from the top. when you lift the tire, it would swing down and you can pin it in to where you just released the bar from. take a look at my silly pic...

just a thought.

also, what is that website for ammo cannisters...?

oh yeah, nice OEM lic. plate holder... i picked one up for the IPOR bumper of the 80...

I think you need a cheap Harbor Freight electric winch in there to hoist that tire carrier up in style! If you rig it with a track down the center of the cage you could even have the cable lift the tire off and set if behind the truck. You know you want to... :D ;p

Thanks for your thoughts.

Pete - Not sure I follow your idea. Show me at the meeting on Sunday. The oem plate holder came with the truck. :-)

Nick - Funny you mention that...LOL. Been debating a bunch of overly complicated solutions. Thought about using the rear winch, but that's just silly. Fun to think about tho. I've welded a couple of steel climbing rings as attachment points to the cage and carrier and found a tiny little snatch block that may work well. The challenge is reducing the friction of the strap/rope as it moves through the rings. Getting closer.

you can get some smooth pullys from a decent hardware store...

i will show you sunday the other idea...

actually for ppulleys and block and tackle you can get some super strong smaller stuff at a west marine store. the brands to look for are Harkin or Lumar they tend to be light weight and small. with a couple of quick release shackle pins it could go from one side tothe other eaily and you could set it iup to be 4:1 with a cam cleat.
