Need to do the Tie rod ends on my wifes 97 Altima this weekend.

Anything anyone can tell me about tie rod ends on a Front wheel drive car in general?? Never messed with em before.

Looks Easy as pie.. your going to need an alignment

Just the tie rods should be easy! or are you doing the whole Rack?

way, way easy......i have done it on 2 minivans a grand prix, grand am, and a eagle summit. doesnt take to long if you got a "pickle fork" and a big freakin hammer. as far as getting a alligment its a must. i have had good success with making sure the steering wheel is dead center staight and moving the whole wheel assembly to make it staight. take a sting and run it from the outside wall of the left rear upto the left front outside wall. use this as a "sorta" staight line. now adjust the tierod to keep it there and bolt it in. do the same for the other side.

like i said i have had goodluck doing it this way but definitly get an allignment done as soon as you can. you may want to take a good look at ball joints while you are there. if your ball joints are just bolt in they are easier to replace than the press in and out ones

Hope your not doing the inner ones because that's a diffrent story.:crybaby:

If your doing the inners, it's not that difficult. You do need the right tools though, i've never done nissan inners, but all you should need is a special socket that is the lenght of the inner rod. Good luck.
