Hey people have a quick question. I need the size of the castle nut off of the inner tie rod. As you can see its stripping out from the vice gripes. I seem to have all other sizes but this one. Go figure. I also have adjustable and it still slips. I searched and someone said 13/16 or 21mm? Took the FJ62 to Home Depot and grabbed both, pb blaster, and a mapp gas torch. Lol was too small. Figure I'll ask before heading back in a few. Thanks

So that picture appears to be the locking nut on the outer tie rod and not a castle nut on the inner tie rod.

From the marks, it looks like you are turning it clockwise (looking from outside towards the engine). I forget which side is which, but on one side, you'll need to turn the locking nut counter-clockwise. Put a wrench on the flats on the tie rod end and a wrench on the locking nut, then turn the wrenches in opposite directions to separate. Once the locknut is loose, you can un-thread the tie rod end. The tie rod end on one side of the car is reverse threaded (right to remove). Be sure to count the # of turns to remove, so you can thread the new tie rod end on the same number of turns.

Ok thanks. I marked as a reference only. Its pretty frozen so I'm going back and forth. Even with the tierod end detached still cant move it. Just looking for the proper size wrench to avoid it stripping more

The tie rod end jam nuts on my ‘98 LC required 25mm and 27mm wrenches.

The tie rod end on one side of the car is reverse threaded (right to remove).

On my ‘98 both tie rods and nuts are threaded the same (counter-clockwise to loosen). I know because I incorrectly installed them on the opposite sides at first and they hit my wheels when turning lock to lock.
