...and I hope there isn't a "boom".

It isn't loud. It starts after the Cruiser has been at highway speed. When I slow down (below 40), there is a definite ticking that is linked to speed. The slightest bit of brake pressure stops it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Is the sound linked to engine speed (rpm) or vehicle speed (mph)? "linked to speed" means it gets faster as speed increases? If the former it's probably an exhaust leak. If the latter it could be drivetrain related (brakes or something).

2mbb - definitely dependent on mph and not rpm.

Skniper - good thought. After some eyeballing, I didn't see anything loose or replicate the sound by hand.

Thanks for the replies.

Check your brake calipers ....i have seen those suckers loose time and time again however most normally they make more of a grinding noise:meh:but worth a look.

I considered u-joints as well. But if that was the case, would braking stop it?

I'm leaning towards brake system. Calipers up front (drums in rear?). I would think it would lean more towards discs. The braking may put everything back in place. Does it happen only after you warmed the brakes up? Just a shot in the dark, I had a wheel weight come a little loose and it was rubbing something as the wheel spun. Easy to check & worth a look.

Yeah, seems like it has to be running awhile before the ticking starts. I'll try your suggestion tomorrow and get back to ya.

I would say it's almost definately the front brakes.
My truck was making the same noise.
It has something to do with the disks being somewhat thin or the pads being thin, and when the caliper pistons return they're farther back in, and the back of the pad clicks or rattles against the caliper piston.
The noise will go away when the brakes are applied.

I don't see that it could harm anything, it's just really really annoying.

that's my guess anyway.
