I thought id share something with you all, couple of months ago i had a code from my ultragauge, (cant remember the number) but when googled saying throttle stuck open which put the var in limp mode. I had a planned to on a 1000km round trip that weekend which i did not want to miss at it was a special occasion for me. I couldnt get parts in time and i remembered back from my lx570 being drowned that the throttle seized in that, the tech at the dealer was simply able to drill the rivets out of the black housing and clean out and free the gear assembly.
now the fj and lx570 are identical throttles except for one being a bigger version (as some of you may recall i actually used the spare one from my lx engine swap on the fj). I took mine appart loaded it up with wd40 and scrubbed the gearing with a soft tooth brush then gave a good hit with maf sensor cleaner, dried it out and put everything back together. Cleared codes and all was fine appart from a slightly high idle and a bit of surge when downshifting on decell. I did have the code come up 3 times the following morning on my drive all with in an hour, but each time i popped the intake hose off, disconnected the battery and was able to free it by hand. After the 3rd time its been nearly perfect, i still idle around 1050 but it seems to have sorted the surging out its self over time. I have done probably close to 5000km on it since. I ordered another second one on my way to where i was going just incase, will most likely fit the replacement tomorow as i have nothing else to do.
A brandnew one from the local dealer was 1400aud
Second hand one 380aud
So if you ever have this problem i suggest trying the cheapest and simplest fix first.
Picture attached is how the old looked before i got it working
