Hey everyone, currently I have a 100 series landcruiser. I'm in college and do alot of highway driving and stuff like that so the mileage of the landcruiser is hurting the wallet alot more than I had planned.

I do need 4x4, I go snowboarding alot and have other hobbies that require the 4x4 and larger vehicle than a car. I have been looking at ways to improve mileage, but theres nothing I can really do, so I have been looking at tacomas. I have about a $15,000 budget if I trade the 100 in and was wondering what tacoma everyone would go with.

would a 4cylinder still be enough power in the mountains? Or should I just go ahead and grab a 6cylinder. What should I look for in these trucks and what years?

Thanks,
Jack

I agree, go with a V6, get a camper shell and you are good to go to the slopes and college.

There's not much difference in MPG's between the 4 cyl and 6 cyl Tacomas, so go ahead and grab the V6 if you need/want power. You should be able to get 18-21 mpgs in a stock V6 truck.

For 15 grand you could get a nice Tacoma - either the 2004 and older, smaller version, or you could probably get into a 2005-2007 if you like the newer ones. Both are great trucks and I think it comes down to a personal choice for what you need. If you want the factory rear locker, look for a TRD off road package.

+1 on the 05-07 Taco with the V6. You could also probably pick up an 03-05 4Runner with that kind of money/trade. My wife gets about 18-20 combined in our 09 Runner and she has a heavy foot. Plus, it has plenty of power when you need it.
