Hi there can anyone tell me the thickness of the military trailers tubs and floor. As well as the thickness of the channels for the bed where everything gets attached to.

Researching like mad.

Thanks

Thats way more than you need to use. The trailer will end up being heavier than it needs to be.

OK i'll admit 12 gauge could be a bit extreme. It's just 18 gauge just seems to thin for what it supports. But any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

It is thin, but think about the balsa wood bridges you used to build in shop class. the 18 gauge is plenty strong when welded together. I will say that I would probably go 16 for the floor though. Nothing more.

16 for the floor would be fine. 18 ga. can be strong if its got ribs formed into it but if its just flat it would be flimsy. If I ever get around to making a m416/ 101 type knock off I'll likely use 16 ga for the whole thing with a ribbed floor and side walls.

I may even go thicker than 16 gauge.

Would like to avoid the ribs for the tub, in the lid yes.

These military trailers I can understand that they are strong without a tailgate but the moment U cut that in, logic just tells me that the tub would want to open up a the back, that is why I asked about the thickness of the tubs.

But then again the proof is in the pudding, can't wait to start building my trailer. Will post a couple of sketchup pictures as soon as I can.

Just use some angle for the back. I used angle and 1x1 14 gauge.

Thanks for the pics.

Looks like a great way to make the back stronger. My Sketchup drawing has something in that direction.

Can't wait to get started.

M trailers

If You Have A M Trailer and you know your thickness, please post it here.

Any other suggestions and or experiences will also be appreciated.

Thanks
