As we all are... ok, bootstrap time... yanking it out and putting those guts into another block is a weekend chore for you. you Could always try JB weld...

I would for sure if it was a used motor but damn. It’s new and I spent a fortune on it. I gotta get it right.

Can they weld a crack on a block. I've seen them fix cracks on huge punch presses before. They make some good cast iron welding rods now, too.

Run the engine for a while to heat up the iron and put a phat bead on it. Only needs to hold the psi of your water pump, right?

I likely would do this if it was a used motor. That said, I have about $6000 in this motor.

I own a known good block. It’s my shop porch coffee table.

This will mainly just cost me time and a master gasket kit. I’m going to do it right

Tempting though.

His radiator cap will dictate the pressure of the system.
Back 30 years ago we just used brass rod and peened it over. Still an acceptable repair method depending on the crack location.

A better article describing modern block repair,

Yah, I get that... not many of US actually rebuilt our 2Fs... I'd have a hard time not stripping it all down and getting a high mileage closer-to-standard-bore block and cutting it to fit my guts... you know how to fix it right... sssonly time/energy/money, right?

sorry- just trying to downplay it for ya...

Yeah. I have the 84 block from my blue FJ60. It’s good. I know. It’s a no brainer. Machine shop is comping the machine work and @FJ60Cam is comping the tear/rebuild time.

It’s a costly miss for all of us. Sadly.

I starred at it today. Smoked a cigar and drank a couple of beers and decided it’s not so bad. It’s a toy afterall. Keep it fun.

Hey, at the end of the day, you picked the wrong block... not too bad, considering you get to keep you coffee table!

The 84 has a bunch of miles of iron settling on it? Old clapped out blocks with tons of miles are less likely to warp or crack...

Yeah. It was fine. Needed a ring job. Crank went into another motor with no work to it.

I also like the threaded oil gallery plugs

Done.

Plenty of work to do while the block gets replaced......

Well, on the positive side you are making me feel much better about my diesel rebuild. 🤣
