Just found this on news.com. It is the ultimate road trip, from london to mongolia. The car has to be a one liter engine... would a 40 qualify?

http://www.mongolrally.com/index.php

Sorry, but early 40's are 3.8 liters and later (75+?) are 4.2, but I'm pretty sure you knew that.

That rally looks like it could turn into a Mongolian Cluster......

Maybe we should create a new event around the SCC. We could call it the F'n Grey Rock Rally which is, of course named after our engines - F, 2F, 3FE, etc. and the SCC event location. Our Rally motto: Drive your Junk! Maybe we should consider an alternate route instead of I20? Maybe the Natchez Trace to Tupelo and then 78 to 278?? I'll look-up where Grey Rock is and maybe come up with some alternate routes.

Thanks for planting the seed!

Barry came home from the crawl last year on all back roads. He's the founder of the event.

Hail Yeah!

Post it up Barry!!

I like the senic routes if we have enough support vehicles and good mechanics. Otherwise, we may need to stay on I-20.

Getting passed by 18 wheelers doing 75+mph is a little unnerving in a 40 going 60 mph. I can't imagine it in bad weather!

New rally name: The F'n Hause Rally
Founder: Barry Hause

I got my goggles and ear plugs ready!

Count me in. I always try to take the back roads.

Well, I plan on heading up there on Thursday late afternoon - early evening to help get things set up.

I want senic, but not anything with speed limits under 55.

Maybe we should consider:

Hwy 25 to Starkpatch (all 4-lane now)
Hwy 82 to Columbus
96 to Fayette
43 to 18 to 69 to 20 to 22 to who knows the last few miles

OR

Hwy 25 to 18 near Carthage
18 into Alabama to 17
17 north to 96 near Kennedy
96 to Fayette....see above

What is your route Barry?!?!?!?

When do you guys want to head out?

If we leave at 4:30, we should be there by 9:00?? Plenty of time left for some fine pilsner.

Hey. Sorry for the delay. Had to dig out my maps.

My route wasn't quite so complicated. We took I20 from Birmingham to Tuscasloosa, then hit 82 all the way to Starkville. From there we got on to 12 and followed it to the Natchez trace etc. I'm open to other options if somone has them. This route has the advantage of being relatively direct without changing roads too often. Its mostly 2 lane through pleasant farmland and forest. The last stretch would have to be on the interstate. I would want to avoid getting turned around on some little country backroads and having to do a lot of map stops.

Glad you are planing on going, Barry. ;)

You could get Mickey involved in the planing. I hear he knows something about maps.

Well........I hadn't actually totally 100% for sure decided.....but it looks like there's a strong inclination in that direction.

a caravan!

I didn't realize this post would end up organizing a caravan! I am down for the backwoods way. I like backroads, but also I want to have a pit crew just in case...

I am there, assuming that my job gets better. They are now telling me that I'll be in the Northeast basically for the next few months hustling CAT dealers. Hell, Sani, you and I may be sitting in a bar in Buffalo wondering how good a time everyone is having at Grey Rock. Question is, do YOU have an extra seat?
