well i got a new toy, got a great deal off craigslist. but anyways its gonna be my daily driver, unfortunatley its and automatic, but sometime in the near future im gonna do the 5 speed swap, apparently its not to difficult and its a great mod. also one of the problems was that it smokes severely, what could the reason be? i supposed i have to do a compression test as well as a leak down test. but anyone have any guesses? anyways heres some teasers, i pick it up on the 25th and ill get some new pictures then!!

doesnt look too bad, most of it is superficial. shock towers look pretty good as well...

also ive been told that it could be the valve guides and or stem seals for smoking? thanks

You have one of the last truly great German sports sedans. I had a 1969 BMW 1600 that would be a stone compared to yours but I sure did love it. Have a dynamite time!

Brings back memories. Good friend of mine had a brand new one. Only had it about 6 months, when he hit a bridge abutment in order to avoid a head on collision with a drunk who was on his side of the road on a blind curve. Impacted hard enough to buckle the rear quarter panels and crack the tranny housing. He walked away with only a fractured ankle and would have likely avoided that had he been wearing his seat belt.

I recall going with him to the BMW dealer and watching a video of the factory engineers rolling one and still being able to open and close the doors!

I love 2002's Smoking depends on when. If it is on deceleration (when you let up off the gas at speed on the freeway) thats valve stem seals sucking oil through. If it is on hard accel thats rings. A great online resource and great group is at http://www.bmw2002faq.com/

Enjoy your 02!
