As you can see, the LCP is WAY lighter than the next lightest choice. Probably why it's so snappy to shoot.

And there's the rub. You can't have it all for concealed needs. My PPK/S (22.4oz) shoots so well and soft but it's steel and not compact by modern standards (rent one to compare to the LCP and it'll be amazing). It's now common to find 9mm, .40 and even .45 in a polymer pistol the same size/weight or less.

My thoughts: If you need to do pocket carry then go light and slim, and buy a proper pocket holster. Seems the LCP is perfect for this. Don't worry about the trigger - just get used to it because that's one of the trade offs. Or go try one of the various Kahrs. Triggers are great. Or maybe the new .380 Glock (haven't seen one yet). Pocket guns are last-ditch devices and can't be expected to be outstanding in all regards. I'll still buy them, I just won't spend any money trying to make one better.

EDIT: My Kahr MK9 is 22.1oz empty. All steel. Sub compact. 9mm. 3.00" barrel. It's still not something you'd want to shoot a few boxes of. Slightly softer than the MK40 (23.1oz), though.

Consolidation of calibers is a good idea to me. I should think about that.

Springfield XDS in .45. Love it.

May consider this if I ever actually file my paperwork for CCW. Completed the class in June, but the whole Zimmerman debacle had me a bit nervous about actually getting the permit. I have a XDM 9MM and love it.

Consolidation of calibers was a big reason I got the XDS. I used to carry a .40 but didn't like how it shot. I started selling off pistols and now I only have .45ACP. Some people might like having lots of different guns in different calibers but I prefer to focus my collection. Rifles are a little different simply because one has to own a .22, the vintage US military rifles are in 30-06, current military rifles are in .223/5.56, and anything I buy modern I get in .308WIN. So I've tried to pair down the rifles but it is more difficult.
The real rule is this: Whatever you decide to carry, for whatever reason, you have to practice with it. So if you decide to carry a .380 you need to shoot with it. At least once a month. I don't agree with having a pocket gun because I would never want to practice with it. And I don't really care if someone can tell I'm carrying. Most people aren't observant enough to even notice. So if you're carrying a gun you haven't shot in six months you might as well throw a rock.
But this is just my two cents. Guns are like daughters and wives. You can't talk trash about either one unless you've slept with them.

Weather was warm enough for jfz80, his dad (jfz80sr?), and me to get a few rounds off. The .410 lever action was a hit.

We looked for a Remington lever action 410 for a while, found one, rough shape for $1200.00 we stopped looking.

S&W .357 Mag Police Issue

Acquired in the worst way imaginable (inherited from my father), but sweet Model 13-1 in nickel. Can't wait to shoot it. This was my dad's service revolver back when he was a police officer...

That is a sweet revolver. I'm glad you are able to hold onto it. But I think that bullet is going to be way to big. :-). Those grips are really nice. That's a special weapon.

Ramon let me hold that revolver the other night and I gotta say, from my layman point of view, it's one of the nicest weapons I've held onto.

Having carried / fired them they can be made very nicely. There is one company out there making some really nice ones. Can not think of its name right now. The basic one of these will always put lead down range, just not always accurately. Talking cheap knock offs. But like i said they can be made way more accurate and are getting really easy to find parts for.

I picked one up at the gun show today. Nothing special. Stamped receiver or whatever. Not the high quality one. My brothers convinced me I should have one in my safe as an insurance policy. You never know who might be landing on our shores...plus, as mentioned, it will put lead down range if needed.

Thoughts on the AK-47? I'm considering getting one just to have in the safe. Just in case...but not sure.

Just to toss out the option, have you seen the AR-15's chambered in 7.62 x 39 ?

The AK has its' place, but I would personally prefer a AR & a gas tube over a pushrod if we are talking shooting pretty much anywhere in the States, aside from if you can't clean semi-regular & open element pack it in say New Mexico.

I think gas tubes get a bad rap for all but silty sand evironments, and a lightweight bolt group & an adj gas block take care of the overgassing/quicker buildup-foul.

Plus, swap uppers & you are back in 5.56/223 with one serial # on file.

Just my personal way/POV.
