Marshall, that weather stripping is looking very nice:beer:.........are you having problems with the upper corners?, there seems to be a problem in the upper corner bend/curve, would a cut there be in order?, kinda "Miter cut" ...........have not got mine yet and have been watching your rebuild closely..........BTW, got the rear tailgate WS from slocruisers; still waiting to hear from PVcruisers and you were right, the rear gear was split in 4 pieces..............waiting to get mine from cruiser_guy:frown:

Lou the corners on the OEM had a molded corner. I think I could probably make a few cuts to make it look better But I don't think a miter would be inorder. It wouldn't look right. Was thinking of adding a small corner section with glue.

and they have over 8.000 profiles in stock; they will need a sample to try to match up

Lou

no financial ties!
a bit from their website:idea:
the rear door quarter windows? they will need a sample though also any other items that we are not happy with the fitting!

Lou
P.S. had dealings with them many years ago when they made a short run

Lou, John at Slocruisers is working on this already. Maybe you should touch base with him and see what's up. There are enough piggy parts needing replacement that we don't need two or three sources for each. It would be better to do another part that we all need.

...and you were right, the rear gear was split in 4 pieces..............waiting to get mine from cruiser_guy:frown:

Lou

The order will be going in next week so I can send it out next month.

hey C-G as always appreciate your astute observation:)...........just a bit concerned about the weather stripping, sources and the problems some members are having with the fitting of replacement rubber along with my lack of the same...........wondering which way to turn to find a suitable replacement:confused:...........what parts do you see us needing most for our pigs?....would like to help any way I can; by the way, thank you for news on the gears:bounce:, mine finally gave up the ghost:crybaby:

Actually, I've found the rubber from both Slocruisers and PVCruisers to be the exact replacement and easy to install. I have the cargo window and tailgate glass weatherstripping from PVCruisers and the lower tailgate wiper/side as well as the windsheild weatherstripping from SloCruisers all installed. I can't speak for JC Whitney as I have not got anything from them yet, I'm waiting for a positive of a part number for door weatherstripping which it appears we may have from Marshall (I'm waiting till he has all doors done and they all close relatively easy).

I find the bases and gaskets (between fender and light) for the font turn signals to be hard to get and they are '55 specific (I spent a couple of evenings taking apart busted lights to make two good ones for my truck but I still have no gaskets). If we had bases and gaskets we could modify '40 series lights. "Nuclearlemon" was talking about licence plate light gaskets, I could probably use those too. No one has come up with a weather strip for the lower portion of the tailgate (along the bottom of the tailgate where it hinges) though I can see closed cell foam working there. If the JC Whitney stuff doesn't work then we will need some door weatherstripping as well. That's about all that comes to mind right now.

Ige, well there are two different weatherstrips for this area. One that mounts to the gate it's self and one that mounds on the edge of the body. Mine which I believe is original doesn't even have a piece that mounts on the body but it wouldn't hurt to put a piece of the weatherstripping I bought above on it.

The stuff that goes on the gate is another story. The Slocruisers product for the tailgate outer weatherstripping has these pieces already attached.

As far as the bottom piece across. I will probably buy one of these profiles. I would be 1-4 would work well.

You may be waiting a while.:D I'm not installing all this stuff only to take it all back off because I'm working on the body for paint. I will do the front drivers door. But not the other side. Once I take pictures it will go back in the bag and sit until I'm ready to put the hole thing back together. I'm stoked that we have found a solution to our issues. And cannot wait to put everything back on a nice freshly clean original 55.

I'm patient. With a '55 one gets used to not having everything right away. I'd assume you'll be there in a few months. I wouldn't be ordering anything till 2008 anyways.

C-G, do you a small sample of the lower tailgate weather stripping where it hinges?, also the bases for the turn signals........if you do, please forward them to me with the brass gears and I can approach wefco; the difference between wefco and some of the other suppliers is that they manufacture inhouse and can make what is needed if they don't have it in stock.........would only approach them for what is needed; not what someone is fabricating already pv cruisers and slocruisers are doing a great job..........thanks John and Seth and , just got my tailgate W-stripping in and looks great:bounce::bounce2:............wondering though how to take the plastic pins out along with the retaining strap out of the lower tailgate outer lip to hold the tailgate rubber seal in place!:frown:..........C-G can you please email me a picture of the jack retainer clamp?

Lou

Marshall, why didn't you go with the Fairchild profile # 0350? it looks very similar to the original, more so than the JC Whitney; am I missing something?, I have been known to do that:o

Lou

what's Fairchild's url?

I'll see what I can find at the wrecker in the next week or two. I KNOW there are none of those on my truck that's why I'm looking for it! I can send the spare jack retainer if you want, I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it. It bolts under the drivers side in our '76. PM me if interested I think I promised you something else too so remind me of that as well.
