Put some primer down on the body shell to stop it rusting while i take care of the metal work and repair:

Also got the chance to have a look at the RHD firewall and inspect a few previous patch panels:

I've been pretty quiet with the build over the last couple months sourcing some minor parts.... time for an update

Got the doors off and almost finished from rust repair and treatment, and got the body sitting on the frame but not bolted so i can paint the body off the frame and make some last minute clean ups.

New weld-in roof channels

Thought now is a good time to replace all the hardware since everything is apart so bought a pre-plated
nut and bolt kit.

It's finally starting to look like a cruiser again

The doors will find their way back on the rig soon, then i'll tackle the roof skin. Once that's done, i'll move to the quarter panels and then start thinking about paint.

Whoa! Just saw this thread. Had no idea you were back with a 60 Series! Glad to have you back! @Thebedouin60

Impressive work so far. That original roof skin is amazing. Thought you were going to go with a camper-top conversion until I saw that.

You going to be keeping the 3FE? I think you could find a V8 or something at your parts place. Might as well go full one-off :)

You're late to the party :D and feels good to be back!!

Its got it's original 3F carby in it for now, the challenge is to get the metal work straightened out and get the motor running decent. Already got the H55 in it from the factory and it drove in under its own power so no complaints yet!!

Stay tuned for some more holy grail goodness i'll reveal on here tomorrow

I really like the splits and have fixed two flats in 3500 km.
Can you please measure the splitrim ring as mine are rusted and I have no idea what new specs are?
Especially the ring where it takes the force of the inner tube.
So if you put the ring flatside on cardboard with the V shape up how thick is that V ?

I am in the middle of moving to another house but this is a picture of what I am trying to measure and what I am using now, is this rusted beyond safty?

I was able to break the bead bare foot and used soap and talc powder to install:

Because this pro is wearing sandals I though barefoot is even better, and it really is!
maybe flipflops are for a true splitmaster

Awesome find @Thebedouin60

And @hj 60 funny you post that video, as I took it nearly 5 years ago! Should have titled it "how NOT to remove a tire from a split rim". At least you see the humor in it, unlike all those haters on youtube:cheers:

I'll PM you those numbers and specs later today!

Did some more door work this week to wrap things up and get started on getting the roof seated

Checked the clearances for the transmission tunnel (factory 5-speed sits nicely)

For the moment, the body is only sitting on the frame and not bolted to it, there's still more work to do underneath

Hey @Thebedouin60, any updates? Big fan of this thread, can't wait to see more

Waiting on the last set of parts holding up the build, i'll be sure to post up a big update by the end of this week.

Good job! That first body was Worse than my 650,000km bj60.

UPDATES.......

So i've been keeping quiet and working away......Not really but i did manage to accomplish a few things.

Spent a week on each side of the body, the right hand side is completely done with metalwork and the left hand side is about 80% of the way completed. All the side doors are finished and waiting to go back on the rig. Once both sides are dead straight, i will attack the rear section since barn doors need to be seated and hung perfectly first time out or else they'll rattle and squeak their way into my nerves. I also spent time acquiring some more hard to find parts gold.

First, the before and after metalwork photos:

Before....

After...

After....

.......and finally the roof channel is just about done

The other side also on its way to being finished

I'm very happy with the way the right side quarter panels turned out as it was pretty much destroyed

Still have a few welds to grind down but no more swiss cheese holes

The completed Right Side

But wait there's moreeee

When i wasn't working on the truck and learning how to weld, i was doing what i do best.....get parts

So, got in touch with @reevesci and got a brand new carpet kit enroute. Pics of that when i get it :D

.....meanwhile in dashboard land, brand new in the box

Scored a set of original decals for the rig that would have come with it when it was new

Barn doors all the way from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, these are so well preserved in the dry desert air it makes me want the scrapped 60/62 that they came from.....

.

.....
.......and best for last :flipoff2:

So minor progress update, got the roof finally seated on the truck, got the doors back on it and finally taking care of the last quarter panel. The items left to do are to convert the RHD body to match the LHD chassis and finally prep for paint.

Onwards and upwards.....
