Doing brakes and wheel bearing service this weekend in my LC100. Puzzled over the cone washers for about an hour, could not get them out, tried every recommendation online, until I figured out the trick to it, they all popped out in five minutes doing this:
1. PB blaster the cone washers. Go away for about 30 minutes.
2. Put the drive flange nuts back on the studs, at least a few threads. This is because the washers pop out with some force when they release.
3. Smack the joint between the hub and the flange, next to the washer, with at least a 2.5 pound hammer. Brass is, of course, preferred, but I didn't have brass, so used what I had. Hit it HARD next to each washer, on the side of the hub (not the face!), and the cone washers will pop out with a few good whacks. You won't break anything.
4. Use a brass bar or drift on the washer to encourage the cone washers the rest of the way off, if needed. .
That's it. Don't waste time with heat, smacking the studs, etc. . This works like magic.
