I found out Thursday that since the plant I'm at has not had an engineer before, the bean counters at corporate decided to cut costs by ending my position September 30th... My maintenance manager and plant manager fought like hell to keep me, but in the end the short-sighted bean counters won. So, I'm scrambling like hell to find something to keep us sustained, as Karen doesn't have a local job yet. There is only 1 position internally that I'm interested in and qualify for, so I'm looking at various options back in the Rust Belt. I'm looking at this as God's gift of a ticket out of Memphis, so we'll see how it goes. So, I am likely not making the SCC this year - both Karen and I are severely disappointed. :bang:

We'll see what's in store for us, and try to keep our sanity.

Wow, that sucks on several levels. Sorry for the stress. Are you even considering finding something in Memphis?

It's a doozie, but we'll make it through. So far God's been good to us, so I'm not about to start complaining.

Our aim originally was to head back north within the next couple of years, as we are not raising kids 8 hours from the closest family. I guess that time table got moved up a bit! I suppose if the right opportunity down here came up, I would definitely consider it with her. If any of you have any leads, I'm all ears!

No leads on engineering jobs in my line-o-work, unfortunately. If I happen across someone who might be in need, I will give you (and them) the info. Mechanical engineer?

Welcome to corporate life. The Corporate giveth, and the Corporate taketh away.

Regardless, that sucks. Hope something pans out for you.

As with all things, what's meant to be will happen. Just gotta open the doors.

Yep, Jordan, yer right. Good thing I've kept my resume updated this whole time. I'm pretty sure it's the area manager trying to flush me out and call my bluff to get me to take the open supervisor position here, but I am not interested in a supervisory position. I may take it to shore up income until I find something else. Always have a plan B, especially those in manufacturing.

Tim, I've got a B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.

I had an interview up in Oshkosh, WI yesterday with Oshkosh Defense. They make the really big trucks, medium trucks, and the HMMWV replacement.

Oshkosh Severe-Duty Trucks for Defense, Military, Army, Marines, and Air Forces : Oshkosh Defense

Interviews went well, met some great people, and got to see the production facilities. I should know within the next few days one way or another. I had lunch with Woody, then dinner with another friend in the area. Overall, it was a nice visit north.

John, I don't remember if I emailed you or not, I don't remember your post...:hhmm:

Silgan is a no-go, I turned them down because I'd be gone way too much. Still waiting for Oshkosh, though I should know within the next couple of days. There are a couple of other companies that are forming a second wave of progress, namely ALCOA, Federal-Mogul, and a couple of others. Since nothing is set in stone I'm continuing to look and develop opportunities. I'll let y'all know once I have something set.

YES!!!

Aluminum rim and bearings hook up!!!

I did an internship at ALCOA one summer. How do you think I afforded the wheels on my FJ40? :D
