thanks to Woody/toilets

I'd like to thank Woody for creating this temporary sub-forum. Wasatch Cruisers would like to use this forum for non-official discussion regarding the Hole in the Rock overnight run during Cruise Moab.

We don't have the official list of participants yet but if you've signed up let us know. There isn't too much info out there on the web regarding this trail so let's talk about any questions or concerns you may have concerning weather, camping, trail conditions etc.

Please create a new thread for each new topic to keep info from being buried.

thanks,
dmc

Nice Forum, Thanks Woody!
I understand we will have a toilet seat provided, will it have some type of curtain or screen around it. My daughter wants to know. Yes I plan on carrying my own bag to and from the toilet.
I'm getting very excited about the trail!

Troy,

The curtain or screen will consist of hiking until you're far enough away that no one can see you. Portions of the trail have quite a bit of cover from sage and trees. Others portions are bare naked sandstone.

unfortunately, it's probably where it's sheer naked sandstone that the pucker factor sets in, no? :D

distance to trailhead?

I'm hearing that it's quite a drive to the trailhead, like 170 miles one way? Is it possible to tow there, and safely leave a towrig and trailer? This will definately effect my tire choice for the trip. I'd like to waer my swampers, but sure don't want to put 400 street miles on them:) I can put mtr's on if I need to, but would rather not!

Chef,

So it is a 150+ mile trip from the trail head to Moab. Lots of people towed their toys down this past weekend. The trail head is safe and there is an airport just south where you can leave your tow rigs as well. A full tank in the 40 is fine for the whole trail and back to Halls to top off. I however just drove and actually went to Moab after the run. It was around 2.5 hours of driving to get there, with a stop in Blanding to fill up, but I wasn't towing.

WORD TO THE WISE....
As of this past weekend...the best gas price was actaully at Halls Crossing.

I got gas in all the wrong places this trip. Hanksville was +5, Blanding was +15 and so was Monticello. Moab however was cheaper in town by about -15. So as of this weekend, the recomendation would be to fill up in Moab and then Halls.

Here's a MapQuest of the trail from Moab...hope it helps.

It was beautiful trail, lots of everything. Good solid obsticles, optionals, and some platau driving where you can really rally your cruiser.
