George is not done right?

Poser, FC187 and OrangeFJ45 educated me on the rear axle. It is stamped metal. Your rear traction bar mount need to wrap around the tube more to get a stronger connection.

You will tear the metal from the axle tube the first time your really bind it up.

Not bashing ya, just giving you a heads up.

I don't even fit/run that sort of gear but my eyes tell me the attachment to the diff casing is FAR TOO WEAK!
(And I can't see the "attachment method" at the other end of the bar but I imagine that is likely to be too weak too.)

PS. Really cool straight cruiser!!!!! :)

Thanks for the heads up. Georg made the bar..but another shop put it on. When I see Georg at SnT I will ask him how to improve it

Sounds good D'Animal.....By the way I think you camped nexted to us last year at SnT. You used your chainsaw to cut a piece of 4x8 plywood in two for me:eek:

Awww.

Would have impressed us more if you said "to cut my steak in two" :D

Hey Sandrat!
Nice looking rig there. How about a photo tour and a write up. Maybe ROTW. I for one would love to see more!
Slow Poke

I want to thank georg too!!!!! Met georg for the first time today at his shop, valley hybrids in stockton. Georg was nice enough to spend some time answering my questions and giving me his recommendations for my setup in the middle of a busy work day.

I did not feel rushed or like i was being a pain in the ass, even though i could tell he had a lot going on and still full day ahead of him.

I cannot stress how cool of a guy georg was and is, and i feel as if i owe him something for the time he spend with me!!!

Goerg and valley hybrids is the sh*t!!!!!!

Props

If you look at the backstrap on the bracket on the axle you can see the plate welded to it and look at the Surface contact areas welded together.

Also there are braces in your traction bar to keep them from bending.

His is so close to this.

That is why I asked if Georg was done.

Sandrats track bar mount looks alot like mine, made by FC Fabrication also. Blasted up comp hill with out a rattle or squeak.

hey guys.
thanks for the props. glad you're happy with the track bar matt. fwiw, i did send some additional scab plates with the track bar but obviously something got lost in the translation and the shop who installed the track bar welded the gussets in the wrong place.
the bars i make use thick wall dom tubing and high quality 3/4 heims. probably overkill but you're not gonna bend one and the heims won't fail. i've seen cheaper haims break and bushings get worn out, so i refuse to use them.
there definetly needs to be some gusseting between the two uprights along the axle tube, just like in the pics above. that chassis was built by fc and knwon as "project doa".
here's a copuple of pics of the track-bar that i sent to matt:

couple more showing the axle-end of the track bar and the gussets that were supposed to be installed where i mentioned. classic problem of selling items in "kit form" and it's why i usually don't like selling parts like this unless i am to install them on a vehicle.

either way, with a couple of gussets in there you won't have any problems matt. see you in a week at SNT!!!!!

thanks again!

fwiw, the pics above were for mock-up pruposes only, all the components were then dis-assembled and boxed up / shipped to the customer. in hindsight, i probably should have left it assembled and tacked the two scab plates in their proper location..............

Kinda the same Idea, just looks like more surface area for welding.
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t198/camcruiser13/traction bar/tb4.jpg

Any options on if this mount would rip too????

looks like the same supports i used. they're plenty strong, but running a pair of scab plates between them will strengthen the assembly quite a bit, keeping the uprights from wanting to bend right or left.
under extreme conditions, the uprights can rip out of the axle tubes. it happens more on minitrucks since the axle housings are a little thinner and therefore weaker.
so the more surface area you have to weld to in order to attach the trackbar mount, the less of a chance of the weld failing or the mounts tearing off the axle tube.

Well there's certainly no question about the quality of your product and service Orangefj45

:clap:Outstanding!

And this thread is great for showing off the best fabrication skills/techniques. - So thanks Sandrat62 too
