Has anyone very successfully trained a dog who was past the optimal "training time?" I have waited a little late(couple of months) on my shepherd. I'm not worried, she seems to be picking it up ok, I was just wondering if what the books say has substance.

noah your a sick sick man,i like your style

Some dogs actually need time to mature before they can be trained. I got a BLM from a pro trainer because he was "untrainable." I gave him three months off and started training him @ 9 months. All that trainer can say now is WOW! This dog is hot!

Don't worry about what the books say. Let your dog answer your question for you.

I agree with Flyrod...
I adopted a rat terrier, (5yrs old now), have had her about 2 years and she is totally different from when we got her.

She has learned a lot and prior she was really skiddish and snappy, obvious she was treated poorly in the past. Anyways after lots of love from us, she is really different now.

incidentally, terriers are arguably some of the most difficult dogs to train.
