Can anyone explain the process for taping off areas when shooting bedliner? I will be spraying the lower body of my 62 with the tinted SEM sauce. Not sure on how to get clean lines that follow the curves on the fender and wheel wells. Is there a special tape I should use? Should I pull the tape right after finishing up my second coat or should it set up for a bit?

I wondered the same thing.

I heard there was tape with a wire in it that would pull off clean. But I asked around and could not find any to buy.

To get a really sharp line I think you need to cut the tape off.

So apply a couple coats, let it dry and then put another tape line over and cut the beadliner with a knife to get a clean line.

Or try pulling the tape off wet.

The dry time is something like 5 mins... SO I am going to play a little on some scrap metal before I actually do this on the truck.

Masking tape will work fine. Use a good masking tape from an autoparts store, like 3M's stuff or something. Pull the tape in about an hour or so after the last coat. You don't want to pull it to soon when it's stringing and wet, you might get it on something else you don't want to if it is to wet.

In about an hour you should be about right. Pull the tape at least 90 degrees to the surface, if not a little more. If there is a piece that doesn't come clean and rolls back onto the surface...let it dry a bit more and use a razor blade and cut it off.

The can say's 20 minutes between coats on that stuff...it's more like 40 to 60 minutes between coats. It goes on fast so make sure you don't blow on to much at once or you will have it running all over the floor. I would rather see you do 3 light coats instead of 2 if your not sure how lay it on. Just keep in mind that you have to move pretty fast when spraying it.

Hope this helps, Matt

Thanks Matt. I would've never done this if I hadn't seen the tinted liner on your trucks. It'll be interesting to see how it does with the champagne metallic.
