If you do decide electric wont work what about propane?

No propane option either. No tank and I do not think we can have one anyway.

You may be able to do a below ground tank for the propane as they are available.

Based upon your information the electric is viable but you still can have nuisance tripping. If your panels are indoors then that may not be too much of an issue for you, out here most electric panels are on the outside of the home. The breakers only trip when it is 120 degrees, if it is raining or in the middle of the night. :bang:

Panel is inside. It's in the laundry area and easily accessible.

I did call the power company and the engineer said they did not track amp draw except for large industrial companies.

I am also a plumber. I have a natural gas tankless in my house and I have installed at least 15 in the past couple years. In Cincinnati right now the incoming water is very cold but the tankless keeps up no problem. We can run 2 showers at once or we can run the dishwasher washing machine and a shower with no issues. Anyone that come to me for a tankless electric I talk them out of it. My yearly service includes a heat exchanger flush and I remove the burner and clean the flame rods. Cleaning the flame rods is very necessary.

Ya we install some gas, never electric insta hots except the little under sink ones for coffee stations. Being in Canada out natural gas is dirt cheap so electricity makes no sense. But we have had customers complain that the water just doesn't get hot enough with the rinnai and rheem units.

Gotta think though our outdoor design temp is way friggin lower than anywhere in the USA short of Alaska!!

We have only put in gas units, they are great. Electric, I'd pass. Mike

We finally pulled the trigger and just got it installed this week. We ended up with a Stiebel Eltron Tempra 24 plus. I have to say we love it so far. Water temps are great and no power flicker whenever it kicks on. I cut on everything in the house (stove, dryer, oven, AC, and all lights) and no problem. The only alight issue is the delay in getting hot water. It takes maybe 10 to 15 secs before the fully hot water reaches the faucets. This is supposedly common with all tankless units though. I guess we will see how the reliability is.

Any install or use the electric plus a high effeciency storage tank? Do you set the water temperature thermostat AFTER the storage so the electric warms the tank in those cases?

Thinking about moving to an all electric home with propane back up generator. Battery bank and solar panels, etc.

I was wondering about all electric Rheem plus their Marathon storage tank: http://www.rheem.com/product/solar-water-heaters-marathon-thermal-storage-tank

We have a tankless heater run on propane. the unit seems to function ok, but there is a terrible problem adjusting the water temp in the house(especially the shower) The water pressure varies a little(we are on a well)-so the water flow varies also(this is how the heater regulates temp) and when the house pump comes on, increasing the pressure, the water temp increases to a point it can almost burn you. If you turn the faucet further to the cold mark, the water will slowly cool off, then go completely cold.(min flow on this is .5 gpm) If you then turn the water to the hotter setting, it takes 30-40 seconds for the heater to start back up to heat the water. We have a Noritz heater-prob. one of the best rated, but you can't seem to control the water temp with varying pressure to it.
At $1800 a pop for this thing, I think we could have bought 6 - 60 gal. tanked, elec heaters and still saved $

WEEJUB--look again seriously at Rheem--we have one of their A/c units--junk

SGGOAT, your pressure tank might be not working properly. Check that it could be your pressure problem.

Our heater does not have this problem. If the pressure drops the temp stays steady. Still loving the unlimited hot water and about 7% drop in the power bill.
