Tailgate weight increase - torsion bar?

Just wondering if anyone has looked into some sort of helper spring/torsion bar to alleviate the increased weight of the tailgate when loaded with gear.

Something like this:

Looks like i just need to order one and give it a shot.

the torsion bar *could* work assuming you have not installed Kevin's tailgate lid. You would of course have to experiment with a few holes to get it to work.

I have installed the lid, and it's chock full I was thinking the torsion bar could span from one side to the other, not to the middle. The strut would be great but I doubt there's enough room...
