ok so I just put a deposit on some stuff and Im wondering if I'll be able to get it all safely in the bed of my folks 03 Taco.
Im getting a 3fe engine and fuel delivery system, fj62 axles, some door shells and probly a few other very small items.
we have guestimated the load at 1200 lbs. Can I put that much in the bed? If it makes any difference the truck is lifted a wee bit maybe 3" ish.
the other options are use the folks snow bear trailer raited for 1200 lbs (which i guess i could split the load between the bed and the trailer) or pay $200 to have it delivered
I transported a pallet of wine for work once, and we have hauled wood more then a few times. I know it can take a good load, I have loaded it more then a few times just never weighed the load.
I would recommend splitting the load between the trailer and truck bed.
Tacomas are known to have VERY soft springs and once you have them flattened out you're stuck with them!
I hauled too much firewood - at least enough that I ended up with an AAL to get the bed back up to height. Replacement springpacks are a future item
But to borrow a truck and unnecessarily tear up the springs is silly when you can just use the trailer AND the bed to split the load.
Just my .02
well as far as tearing it up the damage is done(i have a couple old pics somewhere where she's so covered in mud you can't see any of the white paint). it used to be my truck before my folks exploder lived up to it's name. but yeah i kinda figured between the 2 it would be plenty of space and loadability
I have the bed off my 03 Taco now rebuilding the bed mounts. What a pos. Formed 16 guage steel is all that supports the bed on these trucks. After years of oilfield use (abuse), the bed collapsed down around the mounts, giving it a gangster lean to the pass side. I'll be welding for a couple of days, never seen such a poor design. It's essentially identical to the rear bed mounts on a 79 up FJ40. Love the truck, but this is ridiculous.
Yeah it kinda seems yota started taking shortcuts on these. I'm not a huge fan of the frame end cap either. I'm gunna hafta re do the front bumper for my folks sooner then later. But thanks for the info on the mounts.
