"swirl marks" came up with 0 search results here.

wondering what you fellas recommend about getting rid of them on a black truck. purchased my 4runner back in sept, apparently the owner before me used a more abrasive surface to wash 'er with.

at home techniques, products. also, an area detailer in the traingle area of NC.

i had a black 98, and put on some severe pinstriping. swirl marks werent bad at all. i highly recommend the turtle wax scratch & swirl remover. use it with a 10" orbital polisher. i had a cheapo coleman one i think. use polisher to apply as well as remove. does an amazing job for a fraction of the price as a multi stage mothers or meguiars setup. no wax needed after. as long as you're consistant with the application & buffing, you'll be amazed with the results. got rid of all but the deepest scratches, and leaves the finish nice, smooth and mirror like.

should be able to get everything (remover, polisher, extra polishing pads) for about $60. i wouldnt bother with a detailer...do it yourself. including a good wash & dry, shouldnt take more than half a day...

thanks.

did you use a certain technique with the orbital?

ive heard figure 8 motions. ive also heard up and down on the sides then, forward and backward on the hood, roof, trunk.

not really. started top to bottom. squirted the polish in zig zag rows. then just did counter clockwise circles while working left to right. both in application and buff. once applied, let sit for a minute or 2 to harden, then buff to a mirror shine. done...

tips for black paint

I actually just bought a 99 tacoma with some pretty rough black paint..wish i had taken pictures before and after but ive got some past experience with black vehicles seemin as though thats all my family seems to buy. I first washed the truck, just a normal wash with some ice car wash soap dried the vehicle and used a compound called rejuvenator made by "malco" sometimes hard to find..not something you can buy in stores but only by a wholesale distributor. maybe you have one around you, just have to search online. if you get ahold of that use a buffer to apply and remove by hand. next step was to use some flash wax, again apply with buffer and remove by hand. lastly i went over the whole truck with some ice spray detailer and called it a day. swirl marks gone and back to a nice shine. The truck sat outside for 6 years never driven, looks awesome now!

awesome! im waiting for some warm air here in NC before i take hold of this project. ill look around for the malco and a good buffer. are the swirl marks gone forever? ive found out that if you dawn the vehicle after you got it looking nice, the wax will come off and it will look the same again. just a trade off of owning black; buying new and always washing it correctly is about the only way to avoid. but it looks badass when clean!
