Check out this video of a really nice FJ62 with only 77K miles getting trashed for the Cash for Clunkers Program. A fine piece of work our government does here. It is amazing how long the engine takes to die. Not for the faint of heart.

All I can say is, I didnt vote for the mother fxxxer!!! and Fxxx all you who did!

What a piontless waste!

That is all.

How about that motor guys? After 12 minutes of torture, it finally died...but it was still able to turn over. I couldn't believe it. Awesome testament of these trucks.

Complete waste. Who's the dumb mother*+#;(, that traded it in in the first place. Not a true Cruiserhead, that's for sure. Worth more than the gobment gave IMHO

The guy was an idiot. He may have gotten much more on EBAY. The dealer was an idiot too.

Oh.... and then they killed it...

Damn the government and their incentive packages...
I mean its understandable that they are trying to stimulate the economy through the automakers, but still... This isn't the right way...
Whether we like it or not our system of capitalism NEEDS periods of recession in order to have true periods of growth...

*grumble grumble grumble*

I could go on... but you guys dont wanna hear it.

we wasted the first $60B just giving it to the automakers. It did nothing.

Now the automakers are selling cars like crazy. The salesmen, factory workers, truck drivers, mechanics everybody in the chain is back to work for $3B

Which was the better deal?

So far I've seen a handful of 60 series get crushed and one FJ80. I've got a 60 in my shop right now and nobody even wants parts off the thing for free. It's going to the crusher too. Even in that other thread all the parts people want weren't even offered in 91. They are not collectors items. They are not worth $4500. A Fj80 isn't worth half that. Try to sell a beat 60 for $1000 and see how that goes for you.

And they don't have to go to the crusher. The dealers have an option of saving them BUT THEY ARE NOT WORTH IT. If you think it is, haul your ass to the dealer and offer to buy it.

Put your money where your mouth is.

i wish they would have done the same thing with mortgages. Instead of giving AIG billions to cover the cost of toxic assets like mortgages, just guarantee those mortgages just like student loans and all the sudden those assets are worth something again.

Put the money where it will help people, not corporations.

Guarentee them with what? They did guarentee them when Clinton formed Fannie and freddie into to Govt backed entities that they died as. In order to give Carters "community reinvestment act" the teeth it needed to federaly guarentee BS mortgages to the "poor ol' minorities" :frown:.

Its simply NOT THE GOVTS BUSINESS.

As for how to fix the current auto makers who cant make good cars. Maybe it is the govts responsibilty, they are half to blame fo sticking their fat ass nose in the industry with over regulation, unions, FICA standards, bull s*** I/O terriffs.......meh whatever.

Fxxx it dude lets go bowling

So now you can buy a car from whoever you want and the money goes to them. You don't have to buy domestic. No unfair tariffs that effectively outlaw imported two door sport utility vehicles like what Chrysler got passed in 1984.

The Gov grantees student loans at no cost to them. They back the loans, but if the loan defaults they go after the loanee's paycheck and tax refunds. They can't be written off in a bankruptcy. Why couldn't they do that with mortgages?

It wouldn't be giving money to people who overextended. It wouldn't be bailing out the banks who made bad loans.

This recession is getting a whole lot better a whole lot faster than anyone predicted. I can tell you that your congressperson had a whole lot more to do with that than mine.
