I recently installed my sway away coil over 3" lift kit, including the rear sway away shocks and springs...some tips on installation that the directions don't tell ya!

1. Remember to loosen the set screw on the pre-load collar before installing strut, otherwise you have to remove the whole assembly to set ride height. ahhh
2. remove / grind about a 1/4 inch off your front sway bar to clear spring otherwise it rubbs when suspension compresses.
3. drop the brake lines to rear axel to allow axel to drop far enough to intall rear springs, just pull the clips and push down through the brackets about an inch or so..no need to disconnect lines.
4. to ease driver side rear sring installation remove the bolt to the cross bar and axel will drop further with out a fight!
5. To get the fj to sit level about an inch or more pre load is nessary on the front coils..easier to do on the bench than on the truck!

Today
first 50 miles

Rear is considerbly stiffer than stock!
Front is soft and sways alot more..going to add more pre-load tomorrow.
Alignment was off considerbly after install, steering was way funky before re-alignment.
New stt coopers 285-70-17s
Loud ride but sweet offroad traction, supurb looks...no rub!
More to come..

I am hoping to order mine in about 2 weeks. Thanks for the insight. Any more comments in the mean time would be appreciated.

I am still getting the buggs out but so far looks good, I only wish the rear was a bit softer, I live on a dirt road. I am currently seeking info if I can adjust the pressure in the rear shocks to get a better ride. Any tips are appreciated. Besides the rear sits quite high!

It wanders a bit but nothing compared to my fj40, I am going to check the specs on the alighnment tomorrow and check the caster again.
Like with any other modifications it may require some tweaking to make it perfect. So far its minor issues, I also need to re-valve the shocks, they are too stiff in the rear for my taste.

I know this is an old thread but I would love to hear how the sway away is running for you now. Have the rear springs settled a little and gotten any softer? How is the ride quality on the front? Thanks
