Hello this is my first post on this forum, so apologies if I put it in the wrong spot. I just got my hands on a 94 hdj81 and right away I could tell it needed some work, namely in the suspension area. It looks like the shocks are completely dead and I need to replace them. I've looked at a few shocks online but none of them remark if there's a distinction between the diesel and gas lc. I would assume the diesel is a bit heavier and requires different shocks/springs from normal LCs? Or do they both share the same suspension? If someone could please enlighten me, it would be much appreciated, thanks!

I bought an HDJ81 with Dobinsons already installed.

First I swapped the left and right front springs because I think Dobinsons USA springs are slightly taller on the US driver's side - but with the driver on the right and a full size spare in the rear, it was sagging on the right side.

I started out with:
Front Springs: C59-166 - Linear Rate - 2.5" with Stock front weight
Rear Springs: C59-167 - Linear Rate - 2.5" with up to 220LBS

That was 22.5" hub to fender in the front. I didn't like the rake and suspected that I needed a slightly heavier spring to account for the diesel engine, dual batteries and intercooler. I don't think the springs actually gave me a 2.5" lift. Stock front end otherwise - no aftermarket bumper or winch.

So then I added a 20mm Dobinsons coil spacer up front that improved the rake:

That was just about perfect but I still wanted a little less rake. So I bought new front springs:

C59-170 Front Coil Springs | 3.0″ LIFT WITH 220LBS LOAD

I installed those and left in the 20mm spacer just to see what it would look like and I don't hate it. Might be too much reverse rake for some people. Now I'm at 24" hub-to fender. Hope that helps.
