I'm am starting on my $50.00 paint job. I bought a used window frame that had surface rust and a lil beyond. Other that sanding it there any treatment I can brush on to neutralize surface rust for the those hard to reach areas?

There are several brands of phosphoric acid that you can use... prob available at your local ACE Hardware or homedepot/lowes. rust bullet, rust encapsulator from eastwood. I have a bottle of metal ready from POR 15, main ingredient is phos acid but have not used it yet... hope this helps... oh yea, it's sprays on from a pump spray bottle so you can get it everywhere and let it do the job.

Thanks LuLu for the info. I have a some Metal Ready from my last time I worked on my 40. I stripped the frame down with American paint stripper. I found surface rust or metal discoloration underneath the OEM paint. I think I'll paint a coat of Metal Ready on the frame to play it safe. Next its time to mix up some $50 paint and brush it on with a foam brush. I did my top with a roller and it came out nice. If I had spent more time in prep work and color sanding it would have came out nicer. I will be spraying my 40. I know I will be wasting some paint but I think it would lay down a lot nicer than a roller. I don't know still I'm up in the air on this one. Toss up between spray and roller. I might roll on the first coats then spray for a smoother finish. I'll try to post pics. I'm not very good with computers.
Take it from someone that took a while to figure out the uploading picture thing... you almost always need to resize the picture to load it up on this site... if you don't know what that means, most digital cameras give each picture a huge amount of memory, that would take up too much space here so you have to reduce the "size" so it will load up. There is a free software called "Irfanview" google it. Much easier to use than any microsoft photo editor, unless you know how to do that.... in which case, forgive me if I just explained it to you like you were me when I started.
