The fusible link blew the 87 Supra today and don't know why.
How do I tell what gauge fusible link I need? The fuse box says 1.25B under ALT, that is the link that blew.
I have 14 gauge link.
There is a Bosch alt under the hood. I has been replaced originality in 4/2005 and replaced under warranty in 11/2005.

Where should I look for the problem?

With the key off I tried to hook up the fusible link and am getting a big spark from it.
Should I have power through it and should it be sparking?

Removed the alternator and took it apart. The rectifier failed the had no continuity at all.
Hooked up the link and no spark (with the alt off the vehicle) and I have power and it starts.

Now did the alt just take a dump or did something kill the alt?

DO I go with a Toyota alt or Napa?

Napa should be fine if available. Alternators are not rocket science..

The problem was the + wire from the battery to the alt.
The wire connector insulation wore down over time and shorted out on the alt case.
Easy fix, rubber hose and electrical tape.

The fusible link in the fuse box under the hood now needs replaced. I ordered a new one from Toyota. How do you remove it? I pulled with plyers with no luck. I will see what the new one looks like to see how it might be removed.
