Darcie and I are thinking of taking a Sunday Drive on this coming Sunday October 6th. This will be an all day trip, so we would need to leave kinda early. I'm thinking 9:00am departure. The jumping off point will be Lovelock, so figure 1.5 hours from Reno. North up through the Seven Troughs Range. Eventually exit out at Empire, Nevada and back down SR447 to Reno.

Here is a write up of where we are heading and what to expect.

The difference is he turned clockwise and exited at Rye Patch whereas we will turn counter-clockwise and exit to the west at Empire.

This will be a totally stocker friendly run, so no need for anything more than a vehicle you don't mind getting dirty with good tires. You will want to bring a lunch and anything other comfort items you might need.

If others are interested, then we can finalize the meeting place and departure times.

Let me know.

Went out there some years ago, long drive down a very good dirt road, hard to believe people lived at there even as recent as the 1960's.

I'm on CALL!! :(

Have fun!!!!

^^I've said that about a lot of the ghost town sites in Nevada. Some are incredible for their very location. People were definitely a tougher breed back then. We are soft.

That sucks Keith.

Mark, have fun on the cleanup, didn't realize that was happening this weekend.

I agree. I keep telling everyone I would make an excellent rich or retired person, I just need the means to realize my dream.

Is anyone else going to be able to make it?

We have decided to postpone this trip. We are going to wait until it is a better weekend.

FWIW, from Lovelock head in behind Drypatch towards Blue Wing and go to the Elephant Head arch. Just don't tell anyone else about it;) Then head north through the lava flows to the Jungo Road and Empire. There's a cool hunting shack at the lava beds. Vernon is also cool to see. Should be able to do this trip year-round depending on your tires.
