I pulled a permit to camp at Sublime Point on Tuesday night 8-13, I can have at least one other vehicle on this permit so if anyone is interested on coming down to the North Rim for a few days and wants to join me let me know. I know Tuesdays are not exactly convient for most but Tuesday/Wednesday are my new weekend for now. For those who have never been to Sublime Point it is very cool place to spend some time and I'am in some serious need to get out and put my FJ in 4 low for a bit.

Doug

Hope you have good weather. I've heard the wind can blow you off the point. ;-)

Hey Doug. Glad to see you back on the internet and having fun. Wish I could make I could make it but I can't. :-( Have fun and post pictures.

Update: I just got a letter from the North Rim back country office saying due to all the rain that we have had here at the canyon the last couple of weeks, (they have had over 4" on the North rim, we have had over 3" with 1.3" over a 2 hour time frame which caused some flash flooding in the village area) they are recommending that I don't go at this time. The road is not closed but they have put up signs discouraging people to not go out to the Sublime Point area. I may just go ahead and postpone my trip a couple of weeks since I will more than likely be going by myself and my winch is not usable at this time, so to be prudent I may just have to wait :frown: I will update the thread if I change the trip date.

The wind is not much of a problem at this time of the year, but rain/lightning strikes are, just like in Colorado it's monsoon season here. We had a lightning storm about 2 weeks ago that lasted for hours.

What's the matter with your winch?

This is starting to sound like fun! I may be able to go if are still interested in those dates. When exactly do you plan on leaving/returning?

The cable got damaged somehow, not really sure how it did but it is unsafe to use. I really haven't had the time to deal with it, once I get back to Colorado I will replace it. It also looks like I'am going to be working the Fall bid which means I won't be back till end of November.

I also plan on going to Sublime Point next week as planned since it hasn't rained much in the last week and take my chances that I can get through, if not I will just hang out some where close by SP, I really just need to get away for a couple of days, been working 6 day weeks lately due to driver shortages.

I plan on leaving as early as I can on Tuesday morning, I get off at around 11:30 pm Monday and generaly beat so if I'am up at 7am thats would be early, I managed 8:30 this morning and felt like another hour would have been nice! Plan to leave on wednesday afternoon probably.

It would be great to see a famialar face so if you could make it that would be great.

Logic got the better of me on this one. I discussed with Tiff and am going to pass. I'd only be able to spend a couple days down there and the 7 hour one way drive is not conducive for that. Thanks for putting it out there and for the offer. Really appreciate it.

Maybe some time in the future you can bring Tiff and the girls with you, more time for planning would be the ticket.

I figured it would be a very small chance that anyone from the club could swing this trip on such a short notice, it is quite a distance away from the GJ area and that in it self makes it a hard trip to make. It is looking quite likely that I will be working through the Fall season and if that happens I will be more than happy to help out with anyone wanting to come down this way with their trip, I don't know how hard it is to pull a permit for Sublime Point during the Fall season but I had no problem with it during the summer season. I also just discovered a very cool spot here on the South Rim that I could show people, I was there on Tuesday evening with a group of co-workers and we got a sunset with a double rainbow that even people who have been here for years were just awestruck over.
