Hey, just wondering if anyone has removed the hideeous (IMHO) sub-woofer from the FJ?

Seems a majority of the vehicles in my area have the UR (Upgrade Package #2) which includes the sub.

Any pics would be great. It looks as though it takes up quite a bit of space and I'm curious if the rear inside quarter panel plastic is different for those vehicles with/without the sub. More importantly would removing the sub leave the vehicle in an unfinished state?

Any info would be appreciated.

Yes, it leaves a big hole if removed. I had to take it out to do my XM install.

Goto the XM radio instructions and it shows how to remove it. Mostly clips with a couple bolts.

I would be interested in the sub woofer if you opt to remove it maybe we could trade parts so yours would be complete and I wouldn't have to modify mine. Also looking for the 6 disk stereo and amp comonents if any one is changing out the factory unit.

Thanks

Pretty sure the amp is part of the sub. I swapped out my components with another person and here is what you need.

Sub giver: (removes)
Sub
4 mounting screws
lower trim plate (wheel well)
sub switch

Sub taker: (removes)
Storage Cover Panel
2 tie downs
Storage area bottom
Wheel Well cover
Dummy Switch (from where the sub switch mounts)

Also was the base stereo already wired for the subwoofer in the other rig?

This was a UR to a UP swap, neither were a base unit. Just pull up the wheel well cover and see if you have the connector pictured above. Also, pull out the dummy switch where the sub switch belongs and see if there is wiring attached to it.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

Also, I am swapping out my factory head unit (6 disk in dash) and had planned on keeping it. I guess I would part with it for the right price. PM me if you are interested.

there is a six disc changer and a sub on ebay just type in fj cruiser on ebay and it will scroll up.

what about replacing the speaker inside the sub? for those of use that still want the factory look.

Instead of putting in a 6 disc changer...just buy an iPod and plug it in. My 60 Gig iPod is great in the FJC. It not only holds a TON of music, and Movies and is also used to back up some computer files, but also works as an amp using the iPod volume to pump up the standard FJC system. I currently have 13.82 gigs of music rockin in my FJC..which is 3396 songs and 6 movies. Talk about a space saver. That many cds would fill the whole back of the rig.

Sounds great and is easy to mount/charge with an $80 iTrip cig lighter mount.
