Stud saver

Anyone knows how these stud saver products work?

I overtorqued the nut on the stud, and the thread on the stud is somewhat damaged, I rechased the thread on stud and it seemed to be OK but is there anyway you can repair the stud without removing it?

what stud is it? if its a diff cover stud I wouldn't be worried but a knuckle stud I would replace
