in all honesty if looks a lot better without them, that's why I took them off.
If you have little kids.. you might need running boards. if you don't I don't see a reason why you would want them

Get the rock rails

I have a loaded Grey FJ coming in about 3 weeks and it has "running boards" on it. Do you think I should have the rails put on instead???

If you are not planning on going offroad, keep the running boards. If you want to go offroad, there's a high probability the running boards will be damaged. Rock rails are very strong, bolted to the frame, and serve to protect the sides (and belly somewhat) of the vehicle from obstacles that are a bit higher than your anticipated clearance. As the previous poster said, unless you're very small, exchange the running boards for rock rails. I can't imagine what the dealer must be putting on your Cruiser!
ilovesandt, if you want something to step on that will also serve as a rockrail you might want to check out Bentup.com's square rock rail for the FJ Cruiser.
They look nice and you can stand on them. I priced them last week a set
powdercoated and shipped to Texas cost $620 and they look stronger than Toyota's rock rails. search on Bentup or Angry Andy in FJcruisersforum.com

I have a set of factory rails and desire a set of factory running boards instead.
I want something that is easier for my wife and kids to step on getting in and out.
