I'm putting everything back together on the right front steering knuckle on my '90 HZJ73. So far so good for my first major auto repair project with the FSM, searches on here and a helpful neighbour. Hopefully a quick easy question for all of you with more experience. I'm using the terrain tamer seal replacement kit. For the knuckle seals my question is about the rubber seal. It has a raised ridge around the outside of it on one side. The other side is flat. Which way should it go on? Should the ridged side of the rubber seal go against the felt seal or against the steel ring? Thanks in advance.

I assume there are no instuctions in the kit because you're asking.
To be honest, I don't know your kit. As far as I can remember (the manual doesn't give any pointers) and it's four/five years since I had one apart, the standard way is to have the ridge pointing to the steel ring.

Thanks for responding. No nothing in the kit and no other reference material makes any mention of it. The old one that came out of it didn't have a ridge, flat on both sides. My logic prior to your response was to put the flat side with the steel ring and the ridge side to the felt because the steel ring didn't really seem to fit well with the ridge side. Monday morning I'll give 4wheelauto a call (where I bought the kit) I'm sure they've used the kit recently and can give me a definite answer. Hopefully then I'll be 4 or 5 years without touching it like yourself!

4wheelauto said ridge to the steel ring as well. Your memory was correct Ron R. Thanks again.

Thanks for the info.....
Makes me feel good....you never know about your memory, getting older :grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp:
